BUDS Gardeners Meeting 9/7
The next meeting of the BUDS Gardeners will be held on Thursday, September 7 at 6:00 P.M. in the basement social hall of the First United Presbyterian Church at 43 West Scribner Avenue, DuBois.  Entry is through the red door at STREET level on West Scribner Ave. The public is invited. A light supper will be provided.

Plans for the annual picnic in September at Bilger’s Rocks will be discussed. A hypertufa workshop for September will be planned at the meeting.

The Monarch butterfly releases are continuing on a daily basis (weekends also) at Charlie’s Alternators at 12 N Franklin St, DuBois, at the tent. The time is 4:00 to 4:30 P.M. The public can hold and release tagged butterflies and be able to take pictures of the butterflies up close. To confirm a release date, call Cheryl Shenkle at 371-3322 or 590-9010.
The September program is titled “Sprouts for Strength – A Community Education Garden”.
A team of girls has been achieving their goals by teaching healthy nutrition classes to elementary-age children, helping kids grow their own mini-gardens, growing an impressive garden on Main Street in Brockway, harvesting vegetables, having a stand at the local Farmer's Market, and teaching canning and cooking classes.
In June 2014, five girls from Brookville and Brockway came together to identify issues that they cared about in their community and to find a way to make a positive difference.  The girls decided to tackle the issue of poor nutritional habits and find a way to promote healthier eating, primarily among families with elementary-age children.
The team expanded, research was conducted, community connections were made and by summer 2015, the "Sprouts for Strength" Community Education Garden project was well ahead of schedule.

For more information, contact BUDS Gardeners president Cheryl Shenkle at 371-3322, cshenkle@verizon.net, or go to the website at http://www.budsgardeners.com
