Dorie was born on Nov. 2, 1928, in Sandy Township a daughter of the late Florence Margaret (Heberling) Hyatt and William Kenneth Hyatt.  She attended Clear Run School till 8th grade and was a graduate of Sandy Township High School, class of 1946.

Dorie made her home in Clear Run with her parents and twin sisters, Gin and Viv, and sister Phyllis.  They lived on the family farm and home of the Hyatt Dairy.  When asked about her childhood, Dorie would fondly remember rounding up the cows, the milk house, working with her dad planting corn and making hay, gathering eggs, helping with canning, clothes made by her mom out of printed feed bags when young, swimming in a nearby pond and enjoying her mom’s special baked beans.

Her first job was washing dishes in the kitchen at the Pershing Restaurant.  She worked at Jeffers Electronics one week shy of twenty-five years.  She retired from Rola Jensen.  Dorie purchased her first car, a Chevy, while working at Rola.  Before that, she walked.  She remained the driver in the family for her twin sisters until entering the DuBois Village in December of 2009.  This was her home for four years and she treasured the friendships she made there.  She took advantage of every activity offered, both there and at the DuBois Nursing Home where she spent her remaining days.  She was an avid Bingo player.
