Thomas “Tom” L. Hendricks, Age 79, of Rockton, PA passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 at home, surrounded by the love of his family.

Tom was born September 10, 1938 in Rockton, PA at the home of his grandmother, the son of the late Theodore Cletus “Clete” and Roxie (Brubaker) Hendricks. Tom attended school at the DuBois Area School District. His career path took him into the carpentry field where he worked for DuBois Tool & Electric; and later he became a member of the Local #947 Carpenter’s Union, where he recently celebrated 45 years of service. His passion for construction and carpentry lead him to open and operate Hendricks Excavating Service. He served as a Union Township Supervisor and officially retired in 1999.

On November 17, 1956 he married the love of his life, MaryAnn Nelson, at the Lutheran church parsonage by Reverend Leland K. Fackler. They celebrated 61 glorious years of marriage before his passing.

Tom had a passion and love for community initiatives, and deeply enjoyed volunteering. He was a lifetime member of the Union Township Volunteer Fire Company; a founding member of the Union Township Park Board; and a “project foreman” to any and all of his family and friends, both solicited and unsolicited.

Work and volunteering kept him busy, but he had plenty of time for his many recreational activities. In addition to his love of hunting and fishing, he was a member of the Rockton Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club, a pitcher for the Federation Baseball league, a member of the Rockton Softball League, a rec league volleyball player, and an avid golfer in numerous leagues.  He enjoyed professional sports and was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

Tom was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He took a great deal of pride in the many milestones he celebrated with his family. He had the gift to talk, and left everyone with a laugh and smile. He will be remembered as a character and leaves all that knew him with a special memory.

He is survived by his loving wife, MaryAnn; four children: JoAnn (Kelly) Kalgren of Rockton, James (Sandy) Hendricks of DuBois, Penny (Steve) Orcutt of Rockton, and Thomas Hendricks of Rockton as well as eight grandchildren: James (Emily) Hendricks of Pittsburgh, Adriene (Stephanie) Harris of Tampa, FL, Jamie (Mike) Straub of Rockton, Scott (Gabby) Orcutt of Rockton, Kyle Hendricks of Erie, Kalley Hendricks of Rockton, Kolby Hendricks of Rockton, and Klay Hendricks of DuBois; and seven great grandchildren.  He is survived by one sister, Geraldine Spicher of Rockton, among numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Daniel Hendricks; and a grandson Damian Harris.

Friends and family will be received Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 1-4 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

A private funeral service will be held.

Although flowers are appreciated, the family would be grateful for memorial contributions made to the Union Township Park Board, 161 Union Boulevard and/or St. John’s Lutheran Church 483 Old DuBois Road, both of Rockton, PA 15856.
