Bank destroyed after car catches fire in drive-thru

Flames tore through a bank after a car caught fire in the ATM drive-thru lane on Saturday afternoon.

According to officials, a mechanical failure caused the car to catch fire at the First Commonwealth Bank in Green Tree. A man and a woman were inside the car and were able to escape without injury. The bank was closed at the time of the fire.

The Green Tree fire chief said, the wood structure of the roof and the design of the building allowed the fire to quickly spread throughout the bank.

A spokesperson for First Commonwealth Bank said two armed guards will be onsite around the clock to safeguards customers' valuables. Once the scene is safe they will go into the building to assess the damage. Customers with safety deposit boxes will be notified when they can access their items.

According to the regional manager, the bank will be rebuilt.

There are nearby branches in Robinson, Dormont and Bridgeville.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    SEE VIDEO REPORT ;       https://www.wtae.com/article/bank-catches-fire-in-green-tree/22705422
