Charles P. "Hoagy" Schaadt, age 77, died peacefully in his home on August 16, 2018. Born January 8, 1941 in Nazareth, PA, he was the son of the late Paul Schaadt and Arlene (Fehr) Garren. He was married to his loving wife, Deborah Kohler, for 39 years, and together they have two children, Dalton and Dorothy Schaadt.

After high school, Hoagy enlisted in the United State Marine Corps and served his country for five years, spending time across Southeast Asia, as well as off the coast of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

At age 35, Hoagy started down an academic path that would change the course of his life. He obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from East Stroudsburg University, and continued on to achieve a Ph.D. from McGill University.

Hoagy was employed by Penn State Dubois for 24 years as an Associate Professor of Wildlife Technology. He dedicated his life to teaching others about the things he loved, and was a favorite among many students. He enjoyed birdwatching, reading the newspaper, and was a life-long fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. He always enjoyed humor and was known for his bad puns and clever jokes.

Along with his wife and children, Hoagy is also survived by three sisters, Cathy Ackerman, Paula Slingland, and Lori Shumaker, and two brothers Bruce Schaadt and Dale Garren. He is preceded in death by both parents, two sisters, Beverly Harden and Marlene Stanat, and a brother, Richard Schaadt.

Hoagy touched the lives of many throughout his life, and although he will be missed immensely, his spirit and passion live on in his children, his students, and every person he taught, mentored, and inspired across the years.

A celebration of life will be held in the Lanes Mills United Methodist Church pavilion in Brockway, PA on Saturday, August 25, from 1 - 5 p.m. A short service will begin at 1:30 p.m., with food to follow.

Memorial Donations can be made in his name to The Nature Conservancy, Audubon Society, or the Hahne Regional Cancer Center in DuBois, PA.

The Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
