James A. Witherite, Sr. (age 85)

James A. Witherite, Sr. marched home with the saints on All Saints Day, November 1, 2018. Born July 3, 1933 to Ethel (Danvir) and Claud Witherite, he was raised in Luthersburg. He married Sara Kelly April 11, 1953. She has been patiently waiting for him since 2015.

A meat cutter by trade, Jim spent much of his life as a heavy equipment operator. He worked in the gas and coal industries, including Fairman Drilling, Delta Drilling and Shale Hill Coal Company. He helped build the resort community now known as Treasure Lake.

A Third Degree Knights of Columbus member and member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, he enjoyed volunteering at Nativity Bingo, woodworking, playing bingo at the Senior Center, eating lunch at the Silver Front, and tractor rides to Smyers' to get lottery tickets.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Ella Mae Shugarts.

Love multiplied his eight children to 16. He is survived by Jim (Rita), Marla (Ernie), Mark (Rhonda), Rick (Kelly), Jeanne (Ron), Lisa (Dave), John (Lisa) and Suzi (Mike). His greatest joy was his legacy in his 25 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and great-great grandson.

Also surviving are his sister Sandy Walker, brothers Bob, Don (Annie) and Dick (Pauline) Witherite, and siblings in heart and marriage Jean and Bob Mehok and Jack and Beryl Kelly

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 1 to 4 p.m. from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 5, 2018 at 1 P.M. at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Sykesville with Fr. William Barron as the celebrant.

Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery.

Although flowers are appreciated, the family asks that donations be made to the Sykesville Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 31, Sykesville, PA 15865.
