Jefferson County Man on Probation Accused of Removing Ankle Monitoring Bracelet

police-new.jpgSYKESVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Jefferson County man is facing criminal charges after being caught without the ankle monitoring bracelet he was required to be wearing as a term of his probation.

Court documents indicate the Sykesville Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 51-year-old Scott Thomas Smith, of Sykesville.

According to a criminal complaint, around 8:00 a.m. on May 3, Officer Campbell of the Sykesville Police Department received a phone call from Jefferson County Adult Probation in reference to Scott Thomas Smith, who Officer Campbell had recently arrested for DUI.

Officer Campbell was informed by Smith’s probation officer that Smith was to be wearing an ankle bracelet while on probation.

According to a criminal complaint, Smith was not wearing the ankle device when probation met with him after he was arrested for DUI. It was also noted that Smith had a bench warrant for his arrest.

Smith was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

The missing ankle bracelet is valued at $1,000.00.

Based on the investigation, the following charges were filed through Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana’s office on May 24:

– Theft of Leased Property, Misdemeanor 1
– Theft by Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Misdemeanor 1
– Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 1
– Tamper With Public Record/Information, Misdemeanor 2
– Criminal Mischief-Damage Property, Misdemeanor 2
