Troy Polamalu, the hard-hitting safety whose game-changing defensive plays thrilled Steelers fans for 12 seasons, is on the list of first-time nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

While Polamalu boasts a worthy resume, he faces tough competition in his first year of eligibility. He's one of 15 defensive backs nominated for the Class of 2020.

Several former Pittsburgh players are nominated this year. Along with Polamalu, the list includes guard Alan Faneca, wide receiver Hines Ward, nose tackle Casey Hampton, linebacker James Farrior and kicker Gary Anderson.

The Class of 2020 will be chosen Feb. 1.
