John "Chum" Furman Marshall, age 92, of South Eight Street, formerly of Patterson Avenue, DuBois, PA died Thursday, November 14, 2019 at the DuBois Nursing Home.
 

Born on August 5, 1927, in Rathmel, PA, he was the son of the late Jay and Gladys (Dean) Marshall.
 

He was a 1945 graduate of DuBois High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy having served during World War II.
 

On October 5, 1947, he married Hannah (Ball) Marshall his high school sweetheart. He was a devoted husband to his wife Hannah whom he visited faithfully for over nine years at the DuBois Nursing Home where she is a resident.
 

John retired from the J.C. Penney Company after 39 years of service as fixture foreman for new and remodeled stores throughout the New England and Mid-Atlantic states.
 

He loved carpentry, his garden, and taking long walks. Most of all, his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His legacy was to instill wonderful lasting memories with them.
 

He formerly attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in DuBois, and weekly Sunday church services at the DuBois Nursing Home.
 

John is survived by his daughter, Anelia Lucas and her husband Ron of Treasure Lake. Known as Grandpa Chum, he was the adored Grandfather to John Yount and his wife Kristie of DuBois, PA and Dr. Kristin Horvath and her husband Christopher of Mars, PA.
 

A very special Great- grandfather to Ian Yount of Denver, CO, Mason Yount of Indianapolis, IN, Christian Yount of DuBois, PA and Madeleine and Nolan Horvath of Mars, PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert, Fred "Buck" and Rev. Dean Marshall; and 6 sisters, infants Gladys & Geraldine Marshall; Gwendolyn Timblin; June Himes; Elizabeth Bench; & Julia Bell Mohney.
 

The family would like to thank the DuBois Village and the DuBois Nursing Home for the wonderful care and love given to Mr. Marshall.
 

All who knew him were touched by his kindness, wisdom, perseverance and sense of humor. He was respected and loved by many and will be greatly missed.
 

In observing John's wish, there will be no public visitation. A private service was held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Pastor Dan Smith officiating.
 

Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
