Tuesday the Penn Highlands Dubois Neonatal Intensive Care Unit celebrated caring for their 10,000th baby named Eli Stephen Evans.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit provides care for mostly premature babies or babies with any critical condition. This unit has been a part of Penn Highlands Dubois since 1977.

The nursing director of NICU tells 6News they care for an average of 300+ babies a year and eight babies a day.

It just so happens that Eli is the 10,000th baby that NICU has cared for.

His parents say he was born on December 1st at eight pounds.

Eli's mother Brandy Kelgran tells 6News that Eli had trouble breathing after birth. The nurses at NICU closely monitored him for the next few days.

Kelgran says she also has a four year old son who was treated at NICU after birth.

She tells us she’s happy that Eli can be a part of NICU’s history.

According to the doctors at NICU, Eli will be coming home with his parents tomorrow.                                                                                                                                                                                                                SEE VIDEO REPORT   ;      https://wjactv.com/news/local/penn-highlands-dubois-nicu-unit-celebrates-care-for-10000th-baby

Our youngest, Joe, was in the NICU from Nov 24-26 at Maple Ave, with Dr Siar as our dr. Then on Tuesday, Joe was shipped down to the old CHP. Nov 26-30 Joe was in the NICU at Children’s till Friday. We went down to see him & they told us we could take him home. They didn’t call us like they said they would, we went home & had to go back down Saturday morning. ☺️ His Dr’s were Dr Wiener & Dr Ford, we will never forget those names!! 🙏🏻😇🙏🏻

Then this year we had Faith Marie born on Jan 15th. She was in the NICU for 10 days. The Trisomy 18 baby that wasn’t supposed to live!! Dr Hassen, & all the nurses took such good care of her!! They all still keep in touch & are following Faith’s story right along with all of you!! 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
