JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — Johnstown police say K-9 officer Titan died early Sunday while assisting police in a search for burglary suspects.

Police say just after 4 a.m., officers were dispatched to a burglary at the old Goodwill warehouse, located at 249 Maple Street.

Authorities say two of the five total suspects were quickly apprehended, and the K-9 unit was dispatched to assist in finding the others.

Police say while conducting the search, K-9 Titan fell through an unsecured, open elevator shaft on the fourth floor of the building.

Police add that K-9 Titan was rescued but suffered fatal injuries.

K-9 Titan served with the Johnstown Police Department since 2014.

All five suspects were eventually taken into police custody, police note.

Police identified the suspects as 22-year-old Kayla McCarty, 27-year-old Derrick McCarty, 24-year-old Corey McCarty, and 52-year-old Robert McCarty, all of McVeytown, as well as 25-year-old Sean Robertson of Newtown Hamilton, Pa.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Five people arrested for burglary the morning a Johnstown K9 officer died at an abandoned building had their bail reduced to unsecured Tuesday, court officials say.

Their bail had previously been set to 10 percent of $250,000, court documents show.

According to police, the suspects were identified as 22-year-old Kayla McCarty, 27-year-old Derrick McCarty, 24-year-old Corey McCarty, and 52-year-old Robert McCarty and 25-year-old Sean Robertson.

They’re accused of burglarizing the old Goodwill building located at 249 Maple Avenue in November.

During a search for the suspects, Johnstown police say K-9 Titan fell through an unsecured, open elevator shaft on the fourth floor of the building and suffered fatal injuries.
