Bill urging daylight saving time to be made permanent passes in Pennsylvania

By WPXI.com News Staff

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A bill urging Congress to make daylight saving time permanent in Pennsylvania was passed Monday by the state’s House of Representatives.

The bill passed with a 103-98 vote.

Rep. Ryan Mackenzie is the prime sponsor of the bill.

Mackenzie said studies show that staying on DST will save energy, reduce traffic crashes, reduce crime and lead to healthier lifestyles, Channel 11′s news exchange partners at TribLIVE reported.

“Twice a year, Pennsylvanians are subject to adding unnecessary stress to our lives by changing our clocks between daylight saving time (DST) and standard time,” Mackenzie said in a January memorandum.

Mackenzie said his legislation, modeled off a Florida law, would allow Pennsylvania to follow permanent DST if the United States Congress allows states to do so.                                                                                                                                                                                                                              SEE VIDEO REPORT    ;   https://www.wpxi.com/news/top-stories/bill-urging-daylight-saving-time-be-made-permanent-passes-pennsylvania/6QCA6SYNPRDLRBGDZHN2TYBSQE/
