Dying Dad Shares Final Beer With Sons

I had a similar moment with my grandpa, though not as close to the end. After his cancer diagnosis, I asked him if there was anything he wanted to do and he wanted to take a trip back to his childhood homesite in Alabama. That was a whole week I'll never forget, but the best memory, and one that has my uncles green with envy, is the beer story. I've commented on the addictions of my family, and they didn't come from Papa, so none of us ever saw him drink, smoke, or anything. Anyway, during that trip we stopped at a restaurant for dinner one night. The waitress was taking our drink orders, I went first and ordered a sweet tea. When she got to Papa, he said "I'll have a Miller." I was stunned, but played it cool. I told the waitress "I think I'll have a Miller, too". We both had two beers with dinner, and neither of us made any comment about it. I guess he knew I didn't have the problems that plagued his sons, so he felt comfortable enough to share a beer with me. I never told that story until after his funeral, and my dad and uncles were shocked almost to the point of anger. Serves them right Man, I miss Papa at Thanksgiving. He's the reason I made it out. I'm eternally thankful for him

Dying Dad Shares Final Beer With Sons

Dying dad shares final beer with sons in viral photo: 'That moment meant so much' Norbert Schemm passed away from stage 4 colon cancer the next day. Nov. 25, 2019, 12:33 PM EST / Source: TODAY By Rachel Paula Abrahamson Norbert Schemm’s dying wish was quite simple: He just wanted one last beer with his sons. In a picture that has gone viral on Twitter, the 87-year-old from Appleton, Wisconsin, is seen smiling with a bottle of Bud Light in one hand. By Schemm’s bedside are his wife, Joanne, and their children, Bob, Tom and John. “That moment meant so much to my grandfather,” Schemm's grandson Adam Schemm told TODAY Parents. “You can tell they all know what’s gonna happen, and they just want to enjoy being together. They all have this look of closure.” Schemm, who had stage 4 colon cancer, died the next night. “It was the last 90 minutes that they really had him,” Adam Schemm said. “They drank beer and talked about family and he made everyone promise to take care of my grandmother. They were married for 65 years." The image struck a chord on Twitter and quickly racked up more than 30,000 retweets. Many people replied with similar photos. “I totally understand that. Hardest beer I ever drank,” wrote one person. “Did the same thing with my Dad in May," another wrote. "Cold beer and a Yankee game. My condolences.” One woman responded with a snap of herself taking a shot of Baileys with her ailing grandmother. Adam Schemm has found comfort in reading the comments and said his grandpa would get a kick of out of his viral fame. “I was hesitant to make the picture public," he said. “But I’m so glad I did.” SEE PICTURES, TWEETS ; https://www.today.com/parents/dying-man-shares-final-beer-his-sons-viral-photo-t168290?cid=referral_taboolafeed

To be honest. I do wear mine while driving. My CHOICE! I am simply saying it shouldn't be a requirement if it's not to wear a helmet on a bike. The fact that you can get a fine for not wearing it is ridiculous and let's be honest..not effective. How many people are actually going to wear it just because they got a ticket. It's like speeding. Most people don't slow down just because they got a ticket for speeding.

When I started working in retail grocery (1969), stores were closed for all major holidays and every Sunday. Store hours were Mon-Thus. 9AM-7PM, Fri. and Sat 9AM-9PM . All retailers used pretty much that same timetable.

DuBois Joining D9 Large School Division

Looking at the PA State Little League championships listed at the city park, the DuBois baseball must have at least five or six state championships, right? Yeah, it doesn’t work like that unfortunately. A good feeder program with consistent coaching and the same techniques and plays being called as varsity will definitely help. I posted about Southern Columbia and how it runs. There’s no doubt it works. Berwick football was the same way in the 80’s and 90’s under Coach Curry. A town of 10,000 had over 5,000 people at home football games and they won numerous state championships and even a couple national titles. They had players go D1. Ron Powlus started at quarterback for Notre Dame. Someone mentioned that DuBois isn’t a football town. I’d go a step further and say DuBois just isn’t a sports town period. There’s no school spirit whatsoever in town. Wendy’s puts up players of the week (football) on their marquee. That’s it. I haven’t noticed any other business mention any other sports team on their signs. The girls Volleyball team lost one game to Warren during the season. They did win the D9 championship. (As previously mentioned, with only like 2 other schools in their class, it’s really not that hard to be D9 champs for DuBois). But with that being said, they played the local teams and got beat handedly in the playoffs to Thomas Jefferson. Playing a soft D9 schedule next year should make the football team win at least 7 games, but once they get out of D9 in the playoffs, it’ll be like it has been the past 25 years with them losing most likely. Hopefully some day they’ll get over that hump. Watch these videos about Berwick. This is the culture of winning programs.

Pa. bill would make hurting a person with disabilities a felony by WJAC Staff Monday, November 25th 2019 AA Harrisburg HARRISBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — An Indiana County lawmaker has introduced a bill that would increase the severity of charges against those who hurt people with physical or intellectual disabilities. Rep. Jim Struzzi, R-Indiana, announced the introduction of House Bill 2056 in a press release Monday. HB 2056, or Cody’s Law, is named after Cody Overdorff, who authorities say has Williams Syndrome and was lured and attacked by four people in an Indiana County park Aug. 20. Under the bill, those who hurt people with disabilities would be facing felony aggravated assault. Current law states that there must be “serious bodily harm” to elevate charges beyond misdemeanor simple assault, the press release said. “The need for this legislation was made abundantly clear after Cody Overdorff, a young man with physical and intellectual disabilities, was ruthlessly lured and beaten by a group of four people without provocation. While those responsible were arrested, they were only charged with misdemeanors due to the determined lack of serious bodily injury,” said Struzzi. “I believe individuals who target vulnerable and helpless victims pose a significant threat to our society and should be subject to harsher penalties under the law. I thank District Attorney Pat Dougherty for his assistance in developing this incredibly important piece of legislation.”

There are already protected classes of individuals. Adding disability of the victim to the law.seems like the right thing to do. https://www.wpxi.com/news/top-stories/hoodlebug-trail-attack-man-with-disabilities-describes-brutal-attack-on-recreational-trail/979898975

It is called vote whoring. It helps the elected official square away voters of that subset. Same reason why Dem cater to ethnic or gender based groups and Rep cater to religious or gun groups. By placing a higher standard on one victim, you are in fact saying other victims aren't as valuable as people.

PA ends time limits for future child sexual abuse charges by Associated Press Tuesday, November 26th 2019 AA Gov. Tom Wolf (PA press office) READING, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania law ending time limits for authorities to file charges in future child sexual abuse cases is now in effect with the signature of the state's governor. The legislation signed Tuesday by Gov. Tom Wolf also gives future victims more time to sue. A landmark grand jury report last year found that 300 priests sexually abused Pennsylvania children over seven decades. The Democratic Wolf has also signed companion legislation to invalidate secrecy agreements that prevent child sexual abuse victims from talking to investigators. A third bill he signed increases and clarifies penalties for people who are required to report suspected abuse, but don't. Lawmakers have also begun the multi-year process of trying to amend the state constitution to give now-adult victims of prior abuse a two-year window to file lawsuits. https://wjactv.com/news/local/pa-ends-time-limits-for-future-child-sexual-abuse-charges

Big school, small school or playoffs, regular season...it doesn't matter. The mentality should be "we will defeat our opponent". It should not be made into an excuse when you don't. Confidence should reside in preparation and your abilities. Not them. Most teams lose games days before it's even played. I disagree with your disagree (ha!). Teams/players are like snowflakes.

They will get a few wins now being a big fish in a small pond. Other than returning from 50 years ago of establishing back some local rivalries (ie. savings travel expenses) I dont see the benefit competitively. They'll make the playoffs and continue to get womped in the first round.

    Spam & Scam Calls Today!

Just today, I've received 12 scam calls on my cell phone. My house phone/business phone had 3 today. Yesterday was 8 and 2. One number was 000-000-0000 I don't answer an unknown call, I just reject them and later on I will decide about blocking their number. Has anyone else seen a rise of these calls the last few days??

Yeah, but his ball are probably the size of small moons. On a technical aspect, diesel engines typically have a 3:1 torque/horsepower ratio due to their limited top RPM. At 3974HP, the torque should be around 11922 FTLBs. ...give or take. HP is a product of torque and RPM. HP and torque cross at 5252RPM, with torque being higher than HP below 5252RPM, then HP being higher above. Most diesels max at on RPM at 3000RPM or lower. What helps the Detroit Diesel is that it is a 2-stroke engine that uses the blowers to push out the exhaust. So it has twice as many power strokes as a typical 4-stroke engine for the same amount of RPM.
