  2. Clearfield Area Agency on Aging, Inc. Rolls Out New Quarterly Newsletter in September The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Inc. has partnered with Vision Creative Solutions in Punxsutawney, PA to develop and re-brand the Agency’s newsletter, Lifespan. This publication, which was previously printed on a bi-monthly basis, will now be published and distributed on a quarterly basis. “We are really excited to partner with Vision Creative Solutions. Josh Greenblatt and his team have been outstanding to work with and have turned our newsletter into an amazing marketing publication which can serve as a resource, not just for older adults, but for the community as a whole,” says CCAAA Director of Mission Advancement, Bobbie Johnson. The Fall Edition of Lifespan will hit Clearfield County in early September 2020, with subsequent issues being released in December, March, and June. An electronic version will still be available to those who have previously requested it. Anyone wishing to receive an electronic version of Lifespan is encouraged to send a request to rvaughn@ccaaa.net. Programs and services of the Agency are funded in part by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Inc., Mature Resources Foundation and local and consumer contributions.   3. Susan R. Guzzo, age 60, of Rockton, PA died unexpectedly, Wednesday, August 5, 2020 in Union Township. Born on November 13, 1959 in Punxsutawney, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ira Eugene and Ruth (Dallenbach) Fillhart. Her mother survives and lives in Punxsutawney. She was married to David “Scott” Guzzo. He preceded her in death on August 12, 2007. Susan had just retired from Acosta Sales and Marketing after many years of service. She served on the Union Township Park Committee for many years and was a member of the Roseville Independent Chapel where she was active in church affairs. Susan loved baking, quilting, traveling and going to different places to eat. She was known as a “foodie”. Above all, she loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was a kind, loving person who had the ability to light up any room. Once you met Susan, you had a friend for life. She is survived by her children; (Joshua J. Muth & his wife Sarah of Wheeling, WV, Michael P. Muth of Rockton, PA, Sherri S. Muth and her fiancé Ryan Slack of Sunset Beach, NC) and her companion Blaine Buchheit of Punxsutawney, PA), 2 brothers; (Pastor James Fillhart & his wife Sue of Punxsutawney, PA and Gary Fillhart & his wife Elaine of Stump Creek, PA), 2 grandchildren;(Zachary & Maxwell Muth) and several nieces and nephews. As per Susan’s wishes there will be no public visitation and a celebration of her life will be held from the Union Township Park and will be announced in the near future. Burial will be in Rockton Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Roseville Independent Chapel Phase 2 Building Fund, 3598 US Route 322, Brookville, PA 15825.   4. Dorothy E. Shimmel, age 74, of Luthersburg, Pa. died Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. Born on June 23, 1946 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Clara (Lingenfelter) Schoening. On May 2, 1962 she married her husband of 58 years, Richard A. Shimmel, Sr. He survives. Dorothy was a homemaker. She loved going for long rides, baking and above all, she loved to be with her family, especially her great grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her children; (Richard A. Shimmel, Jr. and his wife Anna of Sykesville, PA, Betty J. Sebring & her husband Jamie of Sabula, PA, Benjamin L. Shimmel & his wife Colleen of Sabula, PA and Greg P. Shimmel & his wife Jessica of Luthersburg, PA), 3 brothers, 2 sisters, 13 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, 2 grandsons; (Josh A. Shimmel and Bradley E. Heffner), 1 step granddaughter Brittany Sebring, 2 brothers and 1 sister. As per Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no public visitation and a private family service will be held.   5. Marlene J. Rogers, Age 70 of DuBois, PA died Thursday, August 06, 2020 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. Born on January 9, 1950 in Clearfield, PA she was the daughter of the late John and Blanche (Haines) Hudson. She was a graduate of the DuBois Business College. Marlene was an accountant for Interim Health Care until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading and socializing at the Cove and the Chatterbox. She is survived by a son (Gerald L. Hoke, Jr. & his companion Lisa Snider of Punxsutawney, PA), a daughter (Carrie S. LeMasters of Pittsburgh, PA), 3 grandchildren (Jodi Hoke, and Allison & Alexander LeMasters) and 2 great grandchildren (Sandra & Seandra Hoke) and numerous brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 11,2020 from 10 AM – 12 PM from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 12 PM from the funeral home with Pastor Terry Felt officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield, PA Memorials may be placed with The Cove, 301 South Brady Street, DuBois, PA 15801.   9. Luann M. Ackley, age 66 of Akron, OH died Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at Christ The King Manor. Born on August 24, 1953, in Kane, PA, she was the daughter of the late Lewis J. and Ethel A. (Bish) Baughman. Her mother survives and lives in Reynoldsville, PA. She was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Luann was a registered nurse and had worked for AETNA Insurance. She loved to go bowling, belonged to a camping club and loved her cats. Luann is survived by her daughter (Michelle Borris of Rock Creek, OH), 1 brother (Ronald Baughman of Emporium, PA), 1 sister (Judy Griswold of Mt. Jewett, PA), 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband James Ackley. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. The 2 failures were letting infected patients back into the nursing homes and then stopping state health inspections at those facilities during the pandemic.

  15. Bernard E. “Bernie” Powers III, age 64 of Boone Mountain died Saturday, August 1, 2020 at his home. Born November 21, 1955 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Bernard E. Powers Jr. and Berdeana R. (Spessert) Powers. He was a 1973 graduate of DuBois Area High School. Bernie was an avid baseball player in his younger days; winning Federation Championships with The DuBois Colonials and Falls Creek Eagles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, many outings with friends, watching the Oakland Raiders, and traveling to the Seneca Casino. After working since the age of 16 for many different companies, Bernie retired from Keystone Bingo in 2017. Bernie is survived by his brother, Stephen E. Powers and his wife Robin, of Penfield, PA and his niece and nephew Erin and Matthew Powers. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 from 6-8 p.m. from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. where social distancing protocol will be followed. A private family funeral service will be held. Although flowers are appreciated, the family requests that you please donate to Fox Township Ambulance, or an organization of your choosing.
