  1. How many here are aware of this "organization" and it's history? It's soirees into Jefferson County, especially Falls Creek and the Tannery?
  2. I know, this manure will be piled up and other compost added to it
  3. Anyone know where I can get manure? Preferably cow, horse or chicken. Looking for a pick up load or two, delivery would be great....I'm no spring chicken anymore Also looking for hay/straw. Going to try lasagna gardening this year. It's supposed to be weed free, my old back loves that idea!!
  4. In the early 60's a neighbor kept sulky horses there. I can remember a few times in late fall/early spring that we got heavy rains and we had to get the horses out of the barn. Very swampy back then.
  5. My paternal grandmother died of this. My father was also very sick with it at the time but survived. He was 6.
  6. Love the pics of the Daugherty mine, it was not far from the old Beechwoods school and church. Also just over the hill from our farm. My best friend growing up was a Daugherty, we spent a lot of wintery Saturdays delivering coal to DuBois and surrounding area homes, shoveled a lot of coal in those days. The coal from that area down to Westville was very high quality, some of it was chosen to fire the Queen Elizabeth on her maiden voyage.
  7. I only have one window suitable for house plants (basement apartment) and it's on the north. I do have a two tier plant light system though.
  8. Very nice! I've never tried orchids, always been afraid because people say they're hard to grow. I do have good luck with African Violets though!
  9. So am I correct in assuming that hostas should be divided in the fall. I have quite a few that have become medium size bushes!! Would like to transplant along a shady tree line. Any hints on how to divide will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
  10. With the high cost of razor blades anymore, I use mine till it starts pulling whiskers instead of shaving them!!
  11. why should a gardener at his own home have to fence off his garden to keep the PA. game commission's little pets out of it?
  12. Any frost protector touching the plant will allow the plant to be frosted, you need to have a layer of air between the plant and the protection!
  13. lol.......methinks there's some sarcasm there and maybe a lightly hidden message ;D
  14. How high is the fence? Deer can easily jump over a 5-7 foot high fence. The best deer fence I've seen is 6 foot high, with another section on top angled outward...but it's expensive!!
  15. Glad I got there early yesterday, I was able to get some of the "Keystone Peppers", which I wanted to try! Also got to meet Petee, a very knowledgeable plant lady!
  16. I'll guess April, 1945....flag at half-mast for FDR......shrubbery is not yet in full bloom so might be spring....car is 40's or early 50's I think, but more likely mid 40's And yeah...what's the prize for guessing correctly? :X
