  1. Just remember G*d overrules doctors all the time.
  2. I guarantee that if everyone on this site prays for her that last hole in her heart will close. She is a happy well loved girl.
  3. I haven't posted anything because it is topsy turvy. Supper thread starts with oldest etc
  4. Best wishes for poocheroo. Should the pooch need advanced care I can highly recommend Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialists. My giant breeds have been there for numerous things off and on.
  5. Al the best to you. I was so worried that may be the outcome. Sending prayers to pooch.
  6. Please let us know how the pooch is doing.
  7. I know how worried you are. All of us can give you our opinions and they may or may not be right. They may just end up scaring you. If this was my pooch, and I have 5 of a giant breed, is to apply a warm, moist heat. Monitor the size and see if it growing from now until you get him into the vet. Take a sharpie and draw an outline around it and try to use a sling to put him out so he does not put a lot of weight on it. Saints are so stoic so his leg could have been bothering him before and he did not show it. And to the poster who said dogs can get Lymes from a shot....that is incorrect. The Lymes Titer will increase hence make antibodies in the immune system. There is copious research proving the efficacy of Lymes vaccines in canines.
  8. He/She asked if the dog could catch his/her flu. Canines do not get human flu. Flu viruses that canines get are H3N8. They are close to Kennel Cough. The OP did not say the dog had any Kennel Cough symptoms and furthermore the pooch was Ok earlier in the day. Parvo and Kennel Cough do not come on quite that suddenly. This seemed to be acute.
  9. Canines do not get the flu. Besides the flu is not contracted by "walking in the cold" anyway. If a dog has flu like symptoms there is something wrong. Could be heart related and the cold aggravated the condition. Could be a number of things. Bottom line is the dog needs to seen by a vet. Now, if the pooch is OK by tomorrow I would still talk to the vet. Remember dogs are lower to the ground and get the cold from the ground more quickly than we feel it. They also get cold quickly through their paws. The last two days I would not let my pooch outside. He used his pee pads. he weighs a mere 15lbs and I felt it was too dangerously cold for him. Just like on super hot days it is so uncomfortable for a dog to walk on the street, people forget how hot the concrete gets. I would put a towel in the dryer and warm it up and put that on the pooch.
  10. I use the Benadryl tablets so I can break them in half. The dose for my pooch is 1/2 which is 12.5mg twice a day. He can take it every 8 hours if really necessary. It does tend to make him sleepy and I like to play so if he does not need that extra dose I do not give it. Heck, I want him to chase me when I have a sock in my mouth. lol
  11. I cannot copy and paste it. I tried several times. Go to the site benadrylfordogs.com. Go to the dosing info. If you cannot find it PM me and I will tell you. Dosage depends on weight. Also, please consider looking into another food. I speak from experience. The vets told me to use the one meat/one grain food. Did not work. After a year of struggling with what the vets told me to do I took matters into my hands. Dogs have a hard time dealing with the GMOs. the GMO molecular structure cannot be tolerated by dogs or humans. This is why we are see ing such a high incidence of Celiac, IBS, Colitis etc.The ONLY food my little guy can eat is Orijen. Kathy at DuBois Feeds has it. If she is out of it she can order it. It can also be ordered on Amazon. Finally, make sure your pooch gets a bath with a very good moisturizing shampoo every two weeks, Sooner and it is too much, longer and they start to scratch again. Also, do not hesitate to do a round of Prednisone before you start this new therapy cocktail. Pred will stop the flare and get your pooch back to his baseline. About twice a year my little guy has a flare and Pred needs to given to get it stopped. Anymore questions PM me. I know this will work. I have been there. My guy use to scratch, itch, lick so much when he dootied long strands of hair came out too. Once, he even had hair wrapped around his teeth like a retainer....all from licking too much. Today he is fine. He is not red. He does not scratch. He does not lick. He is a happy boy.
  12. Not out of hand at all. Just you taking care of God's angels disguised as dogs. Now, where do you live and what time do you go to sleep? Dogs may end up missing...lol P.S. not sure "dodgeman" is quite perfect for you now. That is the equivalent of a former state trooper I knew, that was very ripped, walking 2 standard froo froo poodles.
  13. When you decide the time is right you will want to explain it to them in age appropriate ways. The two year old will not understand it as well as the eight year old. rainbowbridge.com offers the opportunity to create a memorial page and upload photos. I think involving the 8 year old with that project would be great. He/She would not have the attention span to do the whole process but they can chose a photo and see other dogs who crossed over to the rainbow bridge. Again, all in age appropriateness. Also, they will take their cues from you as to how to feel. While it is okay to be somber for awhile, it is also okay to be accepting that they are playing, happy and healthy until we see them again.
  14. Pets will hide when they are getting ready to pass away. This is an instinct from the pack as not bring vulnerability to the pack in the wild. I think it is also time to put a dog down when you muster enough selflessness to say, "I will see you on Rainbow Bridge someday but right now I love you enough to let you go."
  15. The gasket that sits in the opening of a front loader get gunked up. If you pull it back you will see all the slimey goop. You should always use an HE detergent because it it formulated for a front loader. I am not aware of a powder detergent that is HE but maybe there is. You should call the customer service department of the company associated with your washer. They will tell you the best remedy for the gasket and model you have.
  16. I am nuts about orchids. I so badly want to try my hand at raising orchids. Believe it or not I was matched up on Match by a guy who is a master at raising orchids. He was a bounty of info.
