Black Bear Seen Foraging In Downtown St. Marys Today

A male juvenile black bear was spotted Sunday afternoon in downtown St. Marys. The black bear was seen earlier near the Proctor House and is shown in the video perched about 20 ft. up in a tree off of Erie Avenue. St. Marys Police were on scene awaiting the arrival of the Pennsylvania Game Commission. ALL JOKING ASIDE, IT WAS A UNIQUE AND SOMEWHAT SCARY SITUATION WHEN A BEAR WAS SPOTTED SUNDAY MORNING NEAR THE PROCTOR HOUSE ON NORTH MICHAEL STREET.  ACCORDING TO REPORTS, THE BEAR WAS APPARENTLY HIT BY A VEHICLE AND WANDERED ON FROM THE ACCIDENT.  HE EVENTUALLY HIKED UP A TREE TO REST.  OFFICIALS WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA GAME COMMISSION HIT THE 100 POUND MALE BEAR WITH A TRANQUILIZER DART, WHICH ALLOWED THEM TO REMOVE THE BEAR FROM THE TREE.  THE BEAR WAS TREATED FOR WOUNDS ON IT
