Employers are begging for employees

Recommended Posts

Employers are begging for employees or they will reduce hours or close. We do not need a American JOBS Plan. There are plenty of jobs out there. At good starting rates. But people want the free money. That day of reckoning is coming.  When that happens I would ask a job applicant why they didnt look for work when there was work. I know of somebody who just got a new job with a promotion.  Thanks to experience.

If they cant pay a living wage, they shouldn't be in business.

Minimum wage is for minimum skills.  Want more pay.....learn more skills.

Minimum wage IS for minimum skills! 1st I'll say I absolutely agree that servers/bartenders wages should be increased to the same minimum wage as everyone else, plus their tips - they work their a*ses

Luigi's is open only 5 days a week for exactly that reason. Covid has become a good excuse for all sorts of things. Don't want to go to work blame it on Covid. Don't want to make those duty visits blame it on Covid. Don't want to take care of all the trivial things that must be done day by day blame it on Covid. Want to spend someone else's money? Covid will make it possible. Covid has a lot to answer for.

But, but, but, it's a liberal Socialist Society.  You can't make people work.  You give them money to stay quiet and stay out of your hair.

Remember this at the next election.  No hand outs, just a hand up.

Eddie Tate was on channel 6 and 10. And they are starting 50 to 75% above MINIMUM WAGE.   Min wage is $7.25.  Most places are now around  $11-12 hour. START. $15 hour will destroy small local business.

Remember what emperor wolf said when asked about employee's refusing to come back to work because they were making more on unemployment.... maybe the employer's need to pay more. Really nice to say about a industry that you extremely penalized for almost a year and bankrupted a lot of, now when they are finally getting back on their feet you make a comment like that! And he was a supposed businessman? IF he truly was then he would of never made a comment like that. IMO once again it is the nazi machine we know as the DNC at work and have all their members following a playbook.

The restaurant industry has arguably been hit the hardest by COVID.  Employees that waited months for unemployment claims to go through last Spring probably aren't in a big hurry to go back to work again and face another shutdown/reduction of hours and being put back into the unemployment mess.   I can't say I blame them for waiting to return to work until steady work is guaranteed.   A friend owns a local eatery.  She got her full staff to return to work for the April 4th re-opening date by promising that she was done following the state's guidelines.  She opened at 100% capacity and her staff supported her and returned to work full-time.  I see others in the restaurant industry needing to take the same steps to get their employees back.

As for other industries...the lack of employee motivation and commitment was there before COVID.  All COVID did was highlight it.  Employers have been struggling to fill steady, good-paying jobs locally for at least the last 5 years.  This is not new news.

Everyone is entitled to better themselves! Minimum wage is to find out if you're willing to work, show up on time, do what's expected.....not a career job. You start here to show you're employable. Crawl before you walk!

Isn't it weird that in America our flag and our culture offend so many people, but our benefits don't?

I've been hearing this slogan a lot on social media.  Obviously, one side is using this as their only defense.  I wonder, what is "a living wage"?  I know people who cannot live off anything less than $150k/year and I know some who live comfortably off of $28k/yr.  Also, this slogan is was apparently drummed up by someone who has never owned a business.  A business is not created to make it's employees rich.  A business is created to make money for it's own survival, while making it's creator/owner money.

This is NOT why.  I personally know this.  Its due to the free money handed out and ALL the EXTRA pay in unemployment and other incentives.  But keep spinning that tired old horse.  Dems love free stuff.

I can't believe the nerve of the PA Governor saying that employers need to pay more if employees won't return after collecting the extra unemployment benefits.  This makes me mad.  I got a newsletter from PA rep. Brian Smith, who is supportive of small business.  He said there is a general consensus that the extension of the extra covid benefits is going to be curtailed, and that people are going to need to return to their jobs, or get cut off benefits.  I hope it goes through.  I'm sick and tired of small businesses having good jobs available and no one to fill them because they are "collecting!"

It's all silly!  How many people are going to work when they can get paid for staying home? Is it really up to small businesses to outbid a government that is handing out free money?

Plus tips!

Minimum wage for servers is $2.83 in PA.  Luigi's may pay above that or may not but that's all they are legally required to pay.

While this whole raising the minimum wage nonsense is being debated, it's time to look at what restaurant servers are paid.  I've long disagreed with the minimum pay for servers being different from regular minimum wages.  Let tips be taxed at tax time but pay servers a regular wage.  Business patrons shouldn't be expected to make up the difference in the employee's hourly wage rate.

Shared tipping is miserable.   I never worked long at a restaurant that forced servers to tip out the kitchen, bartenders, busboys, etc.  I had not problem giving the bartender a tip as thanks, same for a busboy.  My issue always was being forced to give a percentage of the money I earned to someone else that was also earning tips(bartender) and/or at minimum wage (busboy).

I personally know one person here locally that told me they only worked one day a week at a small locally owned restaurant and made $200 or more that one day in tips.

I put myself through college doing exactly this.  Tips are great.  Until you the day you get  a table of 15 who has tied up your section all night decides to leave $20 on a $300 bill or the guy at the bar drank who through the money he had and all you get is a "sorry honey - catch ya next time."   For the most part, I came out on top when I worked as a server and bartender...but not always.  I was young and didn't have anyone to support but me so I wasn't dependent on that $2.83/hour paycheck to make up the difference  but that's not the case for a lot bartenders and servers.  Servers/bartenders need to be included in minimum wage discussions too.

I am in no way, shape, or form a fan of raising the minimum wage to $15/hour.   I am in support of servers/bartenders being paid the same minimum wage as other employees in the restaurant.
