State Police Investigating Multiple Reports of Identity Theft

police-new.pngJEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police are currently investigating multiple reports of identity theft related to false unemployment claims.

On July 13, Punxsutawney-based State Police initiated an investigation into a report of a false PA unemployment claim involving the theft of a known 41-year-old Punxsutawney man’s identity.

On July 15, Punxsutawney-based State Police initiated another investigation into a report of a false PA unemployment claim involving the theft of a known 42-year-old Punxsutawney woman’s identity.

On July 16, Punxsutawney-based State Police initiated two additional investigations into reports of false PA unemployment claims: one involving the theft of a known 47-year-old Punxsutawney man’s identity and one involving the theft of a known 63-year-old Punxsutawney man’s identity.

Police say individuals who receive unemployment claim paperwork but have not made a claim should contact the PA Fraud Hotline at 1-800-692-7469 to make contact with the PA Department of Labor and Industry and the PA Office of Unemployment Compensation.
