JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Police say a Johnstown man is behind bars for stabbing a woman Friday.

According to the Johnstown Police Department, David Lawrence is facing charges related to aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and making a false report.

Officers say they were called to an apartment at the Oakhurst Homes for a stabbing victim.

When they arrived on scene, they say they found a woman who was significantly bleeding from her abdomen.

Lawrence told police that the woman was at a nearby playground trying to break up a fight between some kids when she was stabbed, according to a criminal complaint.

Investigators noted that they didn’t see any blood trails leading from the playground to the apartment.

They also noted that the woman’s face was swollen as if she’d been assaulted.

Police say the woman was taken to the hospital and they asked Lawrence if they could look around the apartment.

According to police, the only blood they could find was inside the bedroom of the apartment.

They say inside the bedroom were rags and bedding covered in blood.

Police say they interviewed Lawrence again, and he told them the woman had taken the dog for a walk before trying to break up a fight at the basketball courts.

Lawrence told police the woman didn’t even know she was injured until she came back inside the apartment and Lawrence notice the blood, the complaint says.

Lawrence said he tried to stop her bleeding with rags and duct tape, but when he saw the “dark blood,” he knew he needed to call 911, according to police.

Police told Lawrence they reviewed surveillance footage from outside the apartment and it showed that no one ever exited the apartment.

They say Lawrence then changed his story and told them that they were eating food in bed and he had a knife on the dinner plate.

Lawrence said the dog tried to jump on the bed, so he quickly grabbed the knife and accidentally stabbed the woman in the abdomen, the complaint says.

Police say he told them the knife was either in the kitchen or hidden in a dresser drawer.

Lawrence is being lodged in the Cambria County Prison after he couldn’t post bail.                                                                                                                       https://wjactv.com/news/local/johnstown-man-blamed-dog-for-woman-being-stabbed-police-say
