HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Governor Wolf appears to have violated Pennsylvania election law after revealing his wife dropped off his ballot for him on Tuesday.

The governor was on a radio show in Pittsburgh when he revealed that he had his wife drop off his ballot prior to Tuesday’s election, which is illegal in Pennsylvania and punishable by law for up to one year in prison and/or a $1,000 fine.

“He broke the law. Like, the governor broke the law. And, actually, it was his wife cause she ended up handing the ballot in, and that’s the trigger for violating election law… She’s the suspect,” State Representative Seth Grove (R), York County, said.

Pennsylvania election law states voters must mail, or bring their ballot to an election office, dropbox, or other approved location themselves.

“You could hear it, like, it’s a normal conversation spouses have all the time, right? Like honey, you’re driving by the store, can you drop this off? Right? It happens every single day,” Rep. Grove said.

Grove adds that the frustrating part is, Pa. actually had a proposed bill to fix it, House Bill 1300, but Gov. Wolf vetoed it. He says if Gov. Wolf had not vetoed the bill, we wouldn’t be talking about this today and his wife would not be an alleged criminal.

The governor handed her his ballot. I’m pretty sure he voted and he handed it to her,” Grove said when asked if Gov. Wolf should face punishment. “A case of actual election fraud would have been, she took his ballot and filled it out on his behalf.”

A spokeswoman for the governor said in a statement “It was an honest mistake.”

This is a developing story. abc27 will provide updates as they become available.

I think the fine should be paid. I made a honest mistake last year. Guess what I had to pay the fine. The commonwealth needs the money.

If I were him, I would just pay the $1000 fine and chalk it up to being "an honest mistake, but still a mistake with a fine".  It would put him into a much better light.  However, I doubt he considers himself to be a law abiding citizen, but more of a person with special privileges.

It is 1 year in prison AND/OR a $1,000 fine. I am ok with her going to prison for a year AND the fine.

Eventhough I don't like guy. It's a silly law. What's the point of being married if husband and wife can't take care of matters for each other.  My wife had a bank card issue..... when I tired to fix it at the bank they were going to call the police on me because I had her card and thought I was trying to pull fraud (Even though we're on the same account) Also, they asked "how did you get your wife's card? I said it was mailed to my house!  (They had no record of it being mailed). I still couldn't get it activated. She had to do everything the next week after her trip.

I don't think he signed the law he broke. He vetoed the law that would have made it legal.

Yes, but still the same outcome, he cannot claim ignorance about it.  He cannot claim misunderstanding.  HIs only defense is being lazy.  He now needs to face the consequences just like he would have any other citizen do.

I agree with this. But I didn't disagree in the first place. Only stated the facts.

IMO, he has no excuse for this happening since he himself tried to remove the law. But as we all know politician's can get away with anything THEY want to. Just look at Cuomo who has a warrant out for him and HE is choosing when he will turn himself in, if that any of us here on GoDuBois the cops would cuff and stuff us the same day.
