Most of those ads say "No upfront cost" or "Free installation" just to sucker you in. Costs can range from about $11,000 to $25,000 or more for residential depending on the size of the system. Takes around 7 years to see any payback.

My electric bill might average $100/month. That would make the payback around 10 to 20 years without any upkeep costs.
