pennstater
We need to have our own gardens. We shouldn’t have got away from that.
Petee
Jefferson County Extension Master Gardeners are offering three Threshold Gardens to anyone who has never gardened successfully. This is an experimental program to initiate individuals or couples into the knowledge and enjoyment of growing their own food. It's free but there are criteria to be met such as a daily walkaround of the garden to check on the plants. It is a Square Foot Garden and seeds will be provided. First come, first served. If you are interested, then call the Jefferson County Extension office at 814-849-7361 Ext 508, and leave a message with your e-mail if possible. This is a summer long project during which you will learn many garden techniques, discover the veggies that you really love fresh from the garden, and learn how to properly raise them so you get a harvest. Cacao
Commercial - Those deciding on their future career, take a hard look at Food Science. More jobs available than there are people to fill them. Most careers are starting out close to 6 figures and every food company needs them. Not all GMO's are bad. Most crops are genetically modified and are considered GMO foods. Mostly ones that were modified to resist insects/pests.
Petee
Corn, soybeans and wheat are the worst ones, and they're in everything! Few other crops are GMO. Hybridization is a different matter, and yes, those crops aren't harmful, produce better, but will probably not stand the long haul such as heirlooms have. GMO crops are terrible for the soil and kill everything in those fields, including the insects, bacteria, and the run-off finishes the rest. If your food contains GMOs, then don't eat them!!
