Way, Mary.jpg
On February 15, 1920, we were given the gift of Mary Louise (Hepler) Way.  She lived a life full of shared love and caring and as a partner with her late husband “Bill” Way.  On June 11, 2022 the angels came to take her to be with Bill, at age 102.

When she was born, Mary joined the family of Minnie (Braund) Hepler (Mother), Lester Hepler (Father), Virginia (Hepler) Sanders (Sister) and Homer Hepler (Brother) and grew up on Highland Street in DuBois.

Mary graduated from DuBois High School in 1938; attended the DuBois Undergraduate Center of Penn State for two years where she was selected for membership in the Delta Mu Sigma Honor Society and May Queen in 1940.  She then attended Penn State’s main campus.

Mary’s life was focused on family: her parents, sister and brother; and her family with Bill and their two children, Joy and Steve.  Mary also played a key role in Bill’s businesses, starting with Way Pottery and then the start and growth of Way Office Supply.  Although Bill was the outgoing/gregarious face of the business, Mary was a career woman with a family, household and a partner in the growing Way Office Supply business.

In 1976, when the Way Office Supply store in downtown DuBois was destroyed by a fire, Mary, along with their son Steve, worked with Bill to restore and to expand the business.  Mary had a talent for selecting gifts and her favorite parts of the business were management of the Hallmark greeting cards and Cloud 9 Gifts sections.

Mary was a life long member of the First United Presbyterian Church of DuBois where she served as a Sunday School teacher, an elder and member of the Berean Bible Class.  She was also a member of the DuBois Susquehanna Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mary loved family travel, with Williamsburg, VA being a favorite along with camping trips out West, to New England and several Navy ports as part of Bill’s summer Naval Reserve assignments. She and Bill enjoyed trips to Europe, summer visits to a rented cottage in Low Banks, Ontario, Canada and picking blueberries at the family Farm in Stump Creek. Mary was a compassionate, loving and gracious woman treasured by her family and all who knew her.  She lived a life of humility and faith by always putting others before herself.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother, father, sister, brother, husband Bill and a nephew David Hepler.  She is survived by her daughter, Joy Way McGarvey (Ron) and son, Steve Way (Wendy); 4 grandchildren: Chris Way (Ashley), Katie Way, Scott McGarvey (Melissa), Michael McGarvey (Sara); and, 6 great grandchildren: Lucas, Will, Calla, Jameson and Scarlet McGarvey and Maisy Way; and a special niece Susan (Sanders) Nolan and nephews, Alan and Milton Sanders.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2022 from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

A funeral service will held on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 11 a.m. from the First United Presbyterian Church with LaMarr Adamson, CLP officiating.

Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery.
