CRISIS IN KENSINGTON: Where addicts fear the very thing that can save their lives

Addicts fear Narcan — not because they're afraid of overdoses, but the side effects

 

PHILADELPHIA – Opioid overdose kits are common sights in Kensington. They hang from telephone poles and bridge supports all over the northeast Philadelphia neighborhood, while some good Samaritans keep them in their homes or glove compartments.

And it’s not without good reason. Take a stroll around its streets — careful not to step on heroin syringes littering the ground — and you’ll soon see an addict passed out and sprawled across the sidewalk.

Inside the kit, you’ll find naloxone, a single-use nasal spray that can reverse an opioid overdose. It’s commonly referred to by its brand name, Narcan.

But heroin users fear the life-saving drug, according to Frank Rodriguez, an addict-turned-activist. It’s not that they’re afraid of overdosing — it’s that they dread naloxone’s effects.

"Once they get Narcan in their system, it puts them in immediate withdrawal," Rodriguez told Fox News. "They have to get high again to not feel like they're dying."

It’s difficult to track how frequently naloxone is administered since it’s used by a variety of government agencies, medical personnel and civilians. The Philadelphia Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services administered naloxone nearly 19,600 times between 2014 and 2019, the most recent full year with data available, according to city data.

President Biden was criticized for letting out a laugh as he discussed a mother who lost her two children to fentanyl overdoses in 2020.

Biden chuckled while discussing the situation during the House Democratic Caucus Issues Conference in Baltimore, Maryland on Wednesday night.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., pinned blame on the government for failing to stop the inflow of illicit drugs into America during a House hearing on the southern border crisis. Her comments were in response to testimony from Rebecca Kiessling, whose two sons died on July 29, 2020, due to fentanyl poisoning. According to the Detroit News, the two consumed what they thought were Percocet pills but contained fentanyl.

"This government has failed you, and it's failing American families, and it's failing, most of all, it's failing our children and our young people," Greene said during the hearing on Tuesday.

 

"Listen to this mother, who lost two children to fentanyl poisoning, tell the truth about both of her son’s murders because of the Biden administrations refusal to secure our border and stop the Cartel’s from murdering Americans everyday by Chinese fentanyl," Greene tweeted after the hearing.

While discussing Greene's comments and the loss of Kiessling's sons, Biden laughed.

"Isn't [Marjorie Taylor Greene] amazing? Oof," Biden says, as he laughs.

"I should digress, probably, I've read, she, she was very specific recently, saying that a mom, a poor mother who lost two kids to fentanyl, that, that I killed her sons. Well, the interesting thing is that fentanyl they took came during the last administration," Biden said while laughing.

Well, our always lost, dazed and confused voted for government is looking for votes for both parties.  First off they want to screw with your SS.  Everytime  they touch that deal they screw it up more.  But even worse, they want to go to war with Mexico over the drug cartels. I am all for killing bad guys and girls but these idiots has to know that if you want to cure your drug problem, eliminate the demand. The demand is in this country not Mexico and the demand is being completely supported by the liberal fools in this country.

NO!  Go through the proper measures to stop these people at the border or maybe form a jointly held strip of land between the two countries which is patrolled by a joint group formed from both sides.  Fund it heavily from a joint funding group and audit it heavily.  Anyone caught in the NO CROSS Zone can be shot on sight.

Florida sues Biden administration over crack pipe controversy: ‘Misguided, reckless policies’

Moody says DOJ, HHS ignored FOIA requests for over year

 

FIRST ON FOX — Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is suing the Biden administration for failing to provide evidence that taxpayer dollars are not being used to purchase crack pipes for drug addicts.

In a lawsuit filed on Wednesday, Moody asked a federal court to compel the Justice Department and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to comply with outstanding Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for documentation related to possible federal grant funds used to promote drug use through Safe Smoking Kits. Some of those kits reportedly included crack pipes and other drug-related paraphernalia, even though the Biden administration has said crack pipes are not being distributed this way.

The FOIA requests were made more than a year ago. According to federal statue, the agencies were required to respond within 20 working days of receipt, and that deadline was March 10, 2022.

 

Moody claims that the agencies have so far refused to provide any requested documentation, prompting her to take legal action.

"If Biden is using your tax dollars to buy crack pipes for drug addicts, you have the right to know," Moody said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

"Our country is in the grips of a drug overdose crisis, and the Biden administration is stonewalling our requests and keeping the public in the dark about so many misguided, reckless policies. We are taking them to court to get answers for the American people," she said.

In February 2022, President Biden announced a $30 million federal grant program that would reimburse local governments and entities that provide safe "smoking kits," in the name of advancing racial equity and safer drug use for addicts

 

The grant document references Biden's executive order 13985 titled "Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government."

Last year, the Washington Free Beacon reported that those kits would provide users with the ability to smoke "any illicit substance," including crack cocaine and crystal methamphetamine. The story also noted existing smoking kit programs in cities such as San Francisco, Annapolis, Maryland, and Seattle all include smoking pipes.

The White House and HHS repeatedly denied that crack pipes would be distributed on the taxpayer dime, but the Beacon subsequently reported that harm-reduction organizations in five East Coast cities – New York City, Washington, D.C., Boston, Baltimore and Richmond, Virginia – all included crack pipes in their so-called safe smoking kits.

In the legal filing, Moody said Florida has exhausted all of its administrative remedies to obtain the requested information.

The complaint states that the Biden administration's actions harm Florida by continuously denying the state access to documents to which it has a legal right.

"This harm is irreparable because no monetary damages can compensate Florida for this loss. Florida will continue to be irreparably harmed unless and until Defendants are compelled to conform their conduct to the requirements of the law."
