What’s going on?

Recommended Posts

Time for all sides (and there are more than just two at play) need to step back and let the allegations against the former city manager play out in court.  It is not just DuBois, but because of the consolidation, there is a much wider affected group.

There’s more going on than just the allegations on the former city manager.

there’s a bunch of issues coming from the newly elected council.

and there’s a person in the group here being affected by something a member of council has done. And I’ve just been sitting back waiting for something to be said here..

I can’t say that I “know” anything. Other than things I hear. I’m just shocked with everything going on it’s been so quiet here.

so I’ll go on with things I’ve heard.

@Petee first, is it true that a city council person went around removing plants that’s BUDS planted around town and was caught on camera doing this? (My understanding was this person was mad, and wanted their own plants placed)

2nd. What’s going on with this lawsuit from the former police chief and the city? Which has the 3 new members of council, (and one of the ones listed above) listed in the lawsuit? The lawsuit alleges whistlerblower violations. Do you feel this lawsuit has merit? Do you feel the former chief was targeted by the new council?

3rd the new indictment on herm.. no one has any thoughts on that? There was a whole thread concerning that and it’s been crickets even with the new information out..

so like I said.. there’s nothing I actually know.. just things I’ve heard around the area. And this is a place you could usually count on to find information out about the happenings around the area. I’m just really shocked with the uptick of news from the city, no one has had anything to say on the subject..

unfortunately local media hasn’t been very good with coverage on this subject.. with a consolidation looming over the horizon, I would think any and all dealings would be under a microscope..

and when should the state step in a put a pause on further progression until this has all been resolved? The residents of sandy township didn’t ask for this mess when the initial vote happened.

ask yourselves a question.. would you have still voted yes for consolidation if this was all out there prior to the election? We are slowly running out of time before state deadlines arrive, and we’re having heated arguments at joint consolidation meetings over who’s going to host community days!

I believe even more now than in the beginning there is more to this and more involved in this.. and the resident of DuBois deserve answers.. sadly, I believe those answers will never come. And wouldn’t be surprised to see this all quietly go away.

Not trying to stir the pot but.....just had a fire call at a building owned by the council person that made the terrible comment about the fire department and guess what, the fire department showed up did their job!!!!! NO QUESTIONS ASKED! They left their jobs, homes or what ever the case may be to protect a building in DuBois.

(My understanding was this person was mad, and wanted their own plants placed)  I have never heard anything about this.  Was it recently, this summer, when? Things have happened in the past, but not this year that I know of.  The BUDS Gardeners are struggling so we're pretty slow this year.

Again, I know nothing.

He's out walking, shopping and driving around DuBois like nothing is going on.

Sadly, I'm guessing that this is being rushed through by a small group of people with no respect for others, just greed.  Probably with money to invest and ways of influencing people at the top.

When I drove Min Xian all the way around and through Sandy Twp and also into the back areas, she was shocked and said that she had no idea there was so much land in Sandy Twp, and how many totally different living conditions are out there.  Yes, I agree that something is up, my own guess, major gambling, but no one else seems to care.  Everyone I know voted NO, other than a couple who seemed to have very vague ideas of what might  happen.  No definites.

The Courier does not regularly post Ms. Xian's articles which are very well written and full of correct information.  I'll have to see if I can find any more of them.  She is part of a government watchdog group that keeps an eye on stuff like this.

ask yourselves a question.. would you have still voted yes for consolidation if this was all out there prior to the election? We are slowly running out of time before state deadlines arrive, and we’re having heated arguments at joint consolidation meetings over who’s going to host community days!

What information is out there?  I've retreated into my house and choose not to come out again till it's safe but I'd love a carefully worded opinion.

I am sad that Sean Arbaugh has moved on with his career.  I trusted him more than anyone else.

I believe even more now than in the beginning there is more to this and more involved in this.. and the resident of DuBois deserve answers.. sadly, I believe those answers will never come. And wouldn’t be surprised to see this all quietly go away.

You are probably right.

That is absolutely an horrific thing she said about the fire department. And if her building ever was in danger they would show up just like they do for anyone else.

trhat fire call today was not her building. Unless she has another building.. but that fire call today on Brady street was originally closer to the library then turned out to be on west Long ave.

And as far as information. I’m talking about if the herm stuff had come out before the election would people have still voted yes?

I agree petee.. I voted no. And have Everytime it came up on a ballot.

Dubois City needs the consolidation to go through.. Sandy doesn’t.. Sandy has Dubois land locked. Dubois has no where to expand too. Sandy has everything. That’s why the city tries so hard to get it accomplished.

all the enterprise, jobs, food manufacturing.. comes to sandy township..

so of course Dubois wants it.

Sure a consolidated area makes sense on many levels.. but now is not the time until the corruption is taken care of… but guess what folks… for those who don’t know, or are too blind to see, or even just don’t pay attention… Clearfield County is one of the most corrupt areas in the COUNTRY!

Shawn Arbaugh is a wonderful guy. I’ve know him since he became the township manager. Have had the pleasure of working with him on projects, and yes he will leave big shoes to fill. But good for him in bettering himself and family.

But back the question at hand..

what is going on inside the city?

I have not been very impressed with what’s going on with the new city council. (So glad I live in Sandy township)

reports I’m hearing are bullying from the new council to do things the way a certain person feels.. I’m hearing the mayor is caught up in going along with a certain council member.. hearing the mayor is also borderline abusing powers of mayor.. (again all hearsay) but things originate from somewhere right?

and let’s think about this… the council vote is ALWAYS 3-2.. new council and mayor vote one way, old council always votes opposite.. that’s not a United government.

we need a complete overhaul and I’m afraid when elections for the new municipality happen, we’re not going to be in much better shape…

I think we need a complete overhaul from the top down, a total reorganization..

That doesn't sound very promising.  It's certainly not the way a responsible elected representative should act but that's what has been going on for years.  Instead of voting for a practical solution to a problem, anyone who votes consistently in a pack, needs removed.

I go to all the city meetings and the majority of the votes are 5-0.

I also participate at the joint board meetings and it has been a pleasure to work with all the council members. Most of the votes at the meetings have been 10-0.

The state (Pa Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED)) is happy with how the new council has tackled the financial problems of the city.

If that is the case then that’s awesome… but every article that gets posted by the media that shows any type of vote, it’s always 3-2.. honestly can’t recall seeing a 5-0 vote.. but again our media sucks.. and we really only ever see controversial stuff.

The original call came in as the old bank building which she does own.  She also owns at least one other one across the street by the old cosmetology school.

I think the last 3-2 vote was on 6/10 when the assistant public works position was eliminated. The minutes since then show  almost all 5-0 votes. Then before that it was probably to terminate the previous manager and chief of police.

Well there ya go, brings me back to one of my original points. The only thing you see in the news is the bickering and problems… they don’t post the good things that happen.

Is it really "horrific" if she spoke about the way she truly felt?  I'd rather have an honest politician at every level than one that knows how to appear as something they are not.  She truly believes that she/her buildings/her livelihood would be allowed to perish, with some celebration when the last flame goes out.  The problem is many of the fire fighters are still "Team Herm" while she is clearly not on that team.  That is likely why she feels the way she does.

The undeniable here is feelings aren't facts.

Do I agree with her that they would permit any property of anyone's to burn? Categorically; No, absolutely not.  In fact, I'd bet they work twice as hard on anything of hers at this point simply to prove her wrong.

We are fortunate to have some of the very best and most dedicated volunteers in our ranks of the fire department.  I believe Ms. Jackson's heart is also of the very best and dedicated to the betterment of our city.  Hopefully the day will come soon when they can work together.  I think the conclusion of this nonsense about the supposed thefts will bring about that healing.

*For the record:  do I believe a certain someone used and abused their position to line their own pockets, and that of their friends?  Yep.  I just hope that justice is properly served so we can all move on from this.  Do I believe he did some good in this area?  Also yes.

We all need this to come to a swift conclusion.  It's the only way we can all move past it.  We can't heal while we are still bleeding.  Every continuance pops that scab back off and it's allowed infection to settle in this little city.
