Fresh cake yeast looks like a cube of putty when you take off the wrapper.  It must be refrigerated and you have to mush it up in the water before beating it a little.  Otherwise you can get bigger holes.  I'd go for the flavor and do a little extra work.

Most people under my age don't remember it.

I was considering making some cinnamon rolls but I would want the real yeast.
