Constitutionalist Posted August 24, 2025 Posted August 24, 2025 I’ve always enjoyed seeing different birds.. never really thought about traveling to see them tho.. that changed last night! We went to Presque Isle State Park. The Purple Martin Migration is reaching the peak… I’ve never seen so many birds gather in one small area before! Gotta say it was pretty awesome!! Kinda want to start watching for other types of birds doing this.. apparently these martins get so dense you can see it on radar! They fly to Brazil for the winter. Ms Chris Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Check out the Merlin Bird ID app. Its put out by Cornell Univ. It helps you get started identifying the sounds of birds in the area. It has a bird of the day, which gives info about that particular bird, teaching you some various characteristics of that bird. We've used it while traveling to learn about different birds we don't have here. The app is free and very easy to use. Polo 1
Polo Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 We have an area out back where we feed various species of birds and wildlife. I have taken an interest in watching the birds' behavior and finding out which species we have. It's fascinating! I have a friend who has a camera feeder that identifies the type of birds feeding there. It's nice to hear other folks enjoy this too! There is much to be learned from the birds! They are some of God's amazing creatures!
