rnetzlof Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 (edited) The article on the upcoming work on 219 says it is "...to fill in a decommissioned structure...". Any idea what that is? Edited October 3, 2025 by rnetzlof Add omitted letter
Constitutionalist Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 One of the tunnels under the city? Isn’t there a fall out shelter in that Area?
Ignatius Posted October 6, 2025 Posted October 6, 2025 It was an under-the-road tunnel to move freight/packages from the JC Penney side to the Troutman side. I'm not sure what stores used the tunnel. On the Penney side, there was Klewan's department store and on the opposite side, the original Way Office Product, in a building that previously housed a department store. Maybe some friends from the historical society can fill in the blanks?

Petee Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Those were filled in (other than a utility tunnel) when the sidewalk were all redone downtown, a while before Desert Calm.
