  5. I Yam What I Yam! ☞Today in Texas History -- On today’s date 94 years ago, Thursday, January 17, 1929, the popular spinach-eating, Native-Texan comic-strip character known as Popeye the Sailor Man first appeared in print in the “Victoria Advocate” newspaper of the city of Victoria in Victoria County, Texas. ☞The Popeye comic strip, originally known as “Thimble Theatre,” was created by noted American cartoonist Elzie Crisler Segar (1894-1938), who called the “Victoria Advocate” Popeye’s “home town.” In gratitude he contributed a special cartoon for the Advocate’s historic 1934 anniversary issue. Speaking to the newspaper’s editor through Popeye, Segar wrote, “Please assept me hearties bes’ wishes an’ felitcitations on account of yer paper's 88th Anniversity... Victoria is me ol’ home town on account of tha’s where I got born’d at.”
  6. Wait until these minors who are undergoing surgery and hormone therapy for sex transitions reach adulthood and change their minds. The lawsuits against doctors, hospitals, psychologists and probably even their parents are going to keep lawyers busy for years.

  12. It would be very interesting to see what the law says about mandatory education in DC. Most, if not all, states must provide education up to the 12th grade for all children. If they toss them out of public schools what alternative are they going to provide? Everyone has the right to refuse medication even if it results in death. I see the lawyers circling the wagons.
  13. Why set them up in the Ukraine when we have Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit and San Francisco? Apologies to the regular people living in these lovely cities. Stay safe! OK, that was mean mea culpa.

  15. Jokes on me! I just looked at this and was going to make a comment about people who couldn't keep the nominative and objective case of pronouns straight when writing. It drives me me crazy. If I read between he and I once more ....... Although I see it doesn't matter any more since pronouns seem to be as slippery as gender. I think I'll just start using X chromosome and Y chromosome individual. I know that is going to insult some who can't deal with what God gave them chromosome wise but to misquote Popeye the Sailorman, "You is what you is." Let the grammar police and those that have problems with biology deal with that one.
  16. I'm pretty sure that chocolate kills mice. The mouse was certainly dead and the packaged hot chocolate mix was certainly empty. He died happy!
  17. Fauci will be waiting at the dock to inoculate them with the Covid vaccine. Then there will be a huge discussion as to whether his teams will have to go into supermarkets and vaccinate the bananas. The next step will be booster shots for all tropical fruit. If they decide that it has been passed on to domestic fruit they will be out there sticking needles in apples and blueberries. The fruit police will be at your door and you had better not be harboring any unvaccinated fruit.
  18. If she ever gets involved in a filibuster she could try twerking instead of babbling.
  19. I've never tried head lettuce . I was just wondering what made it head up. Out of curiosity I looked it up. It says short days and cool night temperatures. We have had cool nights. Don't know about short days. I was thinking lots of water. Cabbage heads up really tight after a good rain. I'm sure that yours will be tastier than the stuff that passes for head lettuce at the supermarket.
  20. Yes, newspaper makes a fine mulch. It is especially good with crops that don't like the heat generated by plastic. I killed Brussel sprouts one year by planting them in black plastic. Before Denny Bonavita retired I used to send out mental apologies every time I mulched with his column. Sometimes more reading than mulching went on. You have put in a lot of work there ! ol
  21. Impressive! I think it is going to be a great year for gardens.
