  1. What is Juneteenth and why is it celebrated?

Juneteenth, or June 19, is a reflective day to celebrate the end to slavery in the United States. On January 1, 1863, President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation to abolish slavery. Yet it was not until two and a half years later, on June 19, 1865, that the last enslaved African Americans were liberated from slavery.

Today, #Juneteenth is recognized as a federal holiday in the United States, and is also observed for celebrating African-American culture.
