  1. The chicken version of ear tags for cattle. To most people a cow is just a cow. To a farmer they know which cow is which. Having spent much of my youth working on dairy farms I was always amazed at how farmers knew which cow went into which stall to be milked and when one was out of place. Obviously I was too dumb and naive to pay enough attention to this because to me a cow is still just a cow. Maybe that's why I'm not a farmer, or even a gardener.
  2. Sounds like another business opportunity. "STEALTH CHICKEN PHOTOGRAPHER FOR HIRE" Have camera will travel. Low rates, works for chicken feed.
  3. We've used Irish Spring pieces in the storage compartments and cabinets of our RV's for years. Does it work? Good question, it makes the wife happy and that's good enough for me. Actually, if I remember to refresh the pieces about every six months it seems to work well. If not we will get an occasional chipmunk or mouse who wants a nice big storage space for their food stash. Maybe they even want to go camping.
  4. At least it won't be like waiting on a giraffe.
  5. Those chickens would make a lot of turkeys look small.
  6. Having proccessed a few chickens in my day I can assure you that going to the local market and purchasing one is a whol lot easier and cleaner. That suits many of us a lot better.
  7. Perfect fit for a Zippo type lighter for those who still smoke and use a genuine lighter.
  8. Along with his mouth being shut, he should do something about his fingers too.
  9. I need that cat or one like it. I am overrun with chipmunks and they have gotten smart about the traps.
  10. It required a lot of work by many people and organizations, but the transformation has been great and speaks well of our community.
  11. I've already had to replace some pieces of cedar siding because they hammered holes clear through it and were planning to nest inside the wall.
  12. When I find damage like that around our house it usually comes from the wee little woodpeckers, not the big red-headed ones.
  13. Possibly shocked, definately scared, certainly laughing themselves silly.
  14. Heck yes, be excited, or at least pleased. I'd be happy as a lark if anything I planted just grew and didn't get eaten by the various critters who seem to have the desire to eat anything that isn't moving. Woodpeckers even want to eat our house. Now I have an idea for something to do with those big plastic containers slowly filling up the shelves in my garage.
  15. Yes, currently owned by Joe & Pat Kirk. Next door to the funeral home.
  16. I'll supply duct tape and zip ties and we can sell tickets to those who want to do the applications. The money raised could help feed and care for this poor animal and help rid the world of the other animal.
  17. Is it deer resistant? If it is we need to plant some at TL. Our deer will eat anything that isn't moving and probably some things that are.
  18. We never know when our day will come, but in Jennifer's case it was far too soon. Prayers for her family and especially her children.
  19. We had hummingbirds earlier this week or maybe even late last week.
  20. Hardly, the county line is on the other side of the building that housed Boyer's Pool Hall.
  21. There are at least three Catholic cemeteries in DuBois. St. Joseps and St. Michaels in addition to the St. Catherines one. The churches usually have pretty good records, but that only seems true until it is the history you are looking for.
  22. Kudos to the workers and both companies for their efforts and support. Also to the cementary for allowing them to be recognized for their efforts. The progress over the past few years has been great and really shows.
  23. I can't say I would recognize one bug from another in most cases, but the mobility of our society certainly aids in the spread of these critters more quickly than they would spresd on their own. On a recent trip to California in the motorhome we were required (along with all other vehicles) to go through an agricultural inspection checkpoint. The booth inspector asked where we were coming from. When the answer was PA we had to move to another location to be inspected for gypsy moths. Fortunately none were found. I didn't ask what would have happened if they were present. Maybe we would have had to burn the motorhome to the ground.
