    Community Days

    A. Do you have proof of this? B. Who cares? Obviously if the police didn't arrest her, it may not have happened or been a big deal. C. The bigger issue is the lack of volunteer firefighters because that seems to be the reason there is no parade or community days. No help. It is probably time for a non-fire department group to take over.
  2. How did she resign at 11:30 p.m.? Did she call the council members?
  3. The Courier is not publishing a paper edition on Mondays from now on - the entire paper is published digitally only. Did anyone use their subscription to go online and read the Monday newspaper that didn't before? I know I didn't. I feel for those who are older and not tech savvy.
  4. The 'payee' would certainly tell the tale - except if city accounts were made falsely and the check was written to the city, it could be deposited without any red flags from a bank. And even with Waste Management being a private business - bribery for 100 percent control of the work in a town - is still considered illegal no matter how you label it in the ledger.
  5. Are they still protesting? They are more than correct about this situation. Penn Highlands totally doesn't care about our area. It should lose its non profit status and be the big business it is.
  6. Let's face it - Penn Highlands is a big business using a non-profit status to be tax-free. Its leadership and its board care little for the people but only about the bottom line. Granted it takes money to operate but look at what the leadership who provide no direct services or care get paid - some up to $1 million annually. Take into consideration the stories we all hear about the poor care due to being short staffed or having incompetent staff. I am sure leaders hear them, too, and choose to not listen.
  7. There are two write in candidates to consider: 1. Sandy Township Supervisor - Kevin Salanda - Kevin is running against Dick Whitaker, who was handpicked to be on the consolidation committee by Suplizio and Cherry. 2. DuBois City Controller - Gregg Gillaugh - Gregg is running against David Volpe, current controller, who was originally appointed by council. Both write ins will speak up when something is wrong.
  8. Name one kid who randomly starts washing dishes. Who are they trying to kid? Sadly, this restaurant is in the process of opening up in DuBois on the boulevard.
  9. What will they be doing with it?

    Nasuti

Clement, Jackson and Lesky seem to praise Nasuti. The only negativity is from Councilwoman Bernardo in a recorded voicemail that is all over social media that says she wants Nasuti gone. It must be hard working for a group like that - out to get you 24/7.
  11. His contract with its $64,000 bonuses? What on earth entitles someone to get a bonus like that from the taxpayers money? I question if council was getting their own bonuses of sorts that we don't know about. Why else would they stay at a "thankless job" this long?
  12. I agree. I can't believe people are not more outraged. I think attention spans are too short and people cannot focus on things for very long. I am anxious to see how the baseball fields with their separate accounting system tie into this mess. Who knew they weren't part of the city budget?
  13. Good questions. How do they staff it when our local hospitals can't fill positions?
  14. It is very believable that it would be turned up on purpose. Nothing should surprise us anymore.
  15. It doesn't look like they are having contests.
  16. I don't think they voted on it. It doesn't seem like anything was done at public council meetings...unless it was done publically and the media didn't report on it.
  17. And what about pensions for council? Apparently, they got signed up like a full-time, long-term employee.
  18. This is such a non-story. Anyone questioning a well-documented incident is just acting on behalf of someone who wants attention drawn away from real issues.
  19. Other than the property near the reservoir? There is video of that.
  20. Who is sponsoring the fireworks this year?
  21. Yes, we can blame them. They could have seen it was wrong and said no. It wasn't offered to one - Shannon Gabriel -but offered to others who were appointed afterwards to fill vacant seats (Dietz) - and seemed to be done in secret. Even if it is allowed by the state, it should be a point brought up to the people who accepted it. Why wasn't it public knowledge? Why wasn't it offered across the board to all council? How did they feel this was a savings for the taxpayers by having us pay for their insurance? (Most have decent jobs that offer insurance or are on Medicare. What were they thinking?) Then, there is the issue of council getting in on the municipal pensions. How is that a thing?
  22. A lot of people work remotely today...quality workers included. Remember Covid? As a matter of fact, North Central Regional Planning and Development was a part of a project that was advertising the region in large cities to entice remote workers to relocate here to live cheaply, enjoy the outdoors and build up our population since it is dropping...and build the tax base, too, I suppose. This isn't 1980 anymore.
  23. Do we know why Randy Schmidt and fire department members were there? Are the fire companies supporting this current council?
  24. I don't believe there are any for Sandy. If you are following this information about the city on here, the DuBois write-ins suggested voting for Kevin Salandra for Sandy Township Supervisor. The other candidate for Sandy Supervisor was appointed by Cherry and Suplizio to the consolidation group - enough said.
  25. I am sure they would pass. They ran before knowing there was this perk - which needs to end now! This makes me wonder what else the council and friends got that the taxpayers funded. And how did no one know? The names are sent to the insurance company by SOMEONE. How else do the companies and city know who is covered by the health insurance. I am sure someone in city hall knew when those names were added and when they came up for renewal each year. And speaking of quiet - why do we not hear on the local radio stations news reports about city council? Am I missing them somehow?
