  1. Tommy D's restaurant in the 80's in DuBois had the best tasting cheescake. Does anyone have the recipe or a cheesecake close to what it tasted like?
  2. That's a great idea! I know they have a walk or ride every year in Dr Varacallo's honor. I wonder where the money goes to that they raise from it? Does anyone know what they put it towards? The bike path would be a great way to memorialize him. Does any one know his grown children that you could approach them about having the DuBois section of the path named in his honor? They would probably get a lot of donations since he was so beloved and respected in our community.
  3. Do you add stale bread, saltine crackers or canned breadcrumbs to your meatloaf and why. Trying to figure out which one to use.
  4. With Halloween coming surely someone out there has some good local ghost stories.
  5. That's a good idea Petee. There are so many treasures in this area the Courier could cover.
  6. With all the trail cams they have now, why has Bigfoot never been caught on one?
  7. Too many trail cams out there now. If he really existed, he would show up on someones.
  8. I looked in the flower boxes today and there is a whitish moldy looking webbing covering the dirt by the impatients.
  9. Yes!!! Right after the storm, they went down hill.
  10. Thanks for all the help! I have never in 20 years had a problem with my impatients. 5 flower boxes full and all that is left is strangling stems. A couple of them do look like skeletons, but most of them are just flowereless, but the leaves remained. Can't be deer or rabbits because the deck is up too high. I have seen slugs and Japenese beetles this year on my deck. What's up with this summer any way? This is by far the worst year ever for all my flowers, the petunias didn't get real full, all my flowers did poorly and I always have had beautiful flowers.
  11. Every year for over 20 years I have had beautiful inpatients on my deck. About 2 weeks ago it looks like something ate the blooms off of them. Now there are no flowers at all and they look terrible. I put some slug and snail stuff in them, but they are ruined. What could it be?
  12. Well it's almost the middle of August and my Heirloom tomatoes are the size of peas. There are a lot of them, but they are so small. This is my first attempt at growing them. I feed them and they don't have bugs, the plants look very healthy. Is this size normal? My friends regular tomatoes are nice size already. What am I doing wrong?
  13. I'm going to attempt to grow Heirloom tomatoes this year. Any advice? Thanks!
  14. How is the group coming with plans for a Rails to Trails in DuBois? Heard a lot about it last year on here, then it seemed to fizzle out.In today's Sunday paper it said Brockway is having a meeting about Rails to Trails this Thursday at 7pm at the Brockway Depot. it states they will be discussing connecting Falls Creek to Brockway and Falls Creek to Allen Mills. Isn't their enough bike riders in DuBois to get involved and bring the trail thru DuBois? Maybe in honor of bicyclist Dr Varacallo? Maybe DRMC could help with the costs and name the part of the DuBois section after him. Maybe the Varacallo family could spear head this project in his honor. I know they had a ride last year in his honor, but why don't they do something permanent in his honor that would benefit the whole area he loved to ride in. Just some suggestions.
  15. I love that. Do they sell it in our area?
  16. I always just planted the seeds. I'll try starting them in the cups. Thanks!
  17. Shade? I thought lettuce needed sun. I better read up on growing lettuce. Any tips are appreciated. What about butter lettuce? What month do I plant it? Seed or plants?
  18. I would like to grow lettuce in a container on my deck this summer (too many deer around to plant it in the ground). So what kind taste good, what kind is easy to grow and any hints on growing lettuce in a container?
  19. I never had luck growing morning glorys. What's the secret?
  20. Over 7,000 views on this thread and not even 7 people have come forth to help out or mow. Way to go DuBois area! Complaining and saying "somebody" should mow that place.........well be somebody.....volunteer!
  21. I learned the hard way about using plastic to cover plants. I covered all my plants last year when it was cold with garbage bags and the plastic just froze them. In fact it seemed to intensify the frost, I lost all of them. What kind of pansys grow well in this area? I know there are small ones and I've seen some pretty big ones too.
