  1. The link to James J. Patterson's grave on Findagrave is http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=patterson&GSiman=1&GScid=45938&GRid=46415251&
  2. On Saturday, October 24, 2015 the VFW Honor Guard came to the Rumbarger Cemetery to honor James J. Patterson, the first DuBois casualty of World War I. The local VFW post is named for him. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=patterson&GSiman=1&GScid=45938&GRid=46415251& [attachment=8999:IMG_0850.jpg]
  3. On August 21st the Penn State students came to help at the cemetery for Penn State Community Outreach Day. We certainly appreciated all they did to help. They added mulch to the entrance, painted the circle and railing around the Childs' Mausoleum and swept the sidewalk along Main Street. We wish them all good luck in their future careers.
  4. St. Catherine's did acquire the Oklahoma Cemetery probably because they don't have much room to expand. Go to http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=1259654&CScn=Oklahoma&CScntry=4&CSst=40&CScnty=2257
  5. The original DuBois Hospital on Scribner Avenue. I don't believe this is a picture of DuBois.
  6. Occasionally there are dogs in the cemetery and the owners don't clean up after them. No fun stepping in a pile of poop while mowing! We all just do the best we can.
  7. Thank you for the kind comments. We do appreciate all the help we get to restore and maintain this historic cemetery. It is the history of DuBois. Many of the hardworking pioneers of our community are buried there and deserve to be remembered. The DuBois Area Historical Society Lantern Walk will be at Rumbarger Cemetery this October. More information later.
  8. Here are some more pictures of the work that was done.
  9. On April 20th DuBois FedEx employees came to the Rumbarger Cemetery as an early Earth Day event. This is the third year that the employees and YardWorks (814-594-6421) of Brockway, have come to landscape, reset tombstones and generally clean up the cemetery. From left to right: Justin Marchiori, James Burkholder and Cole Bouch from YardWorks, John Geist, Scott Smith, Ryan Morrison, Andy Daugherty, Nick Digilarmo, Greg Weible, Brad Bowser, Seth Ferut, Megan Hubert, Brian Hibbard, Lynette Crawford, Bella Sciamanna and Jason Charles. The Rumbarger Cemetery Preservation Society would like to thank them for their continued support.
  10. Back then you had snow tires, a shovel, a couple hundred pounds of weight in the trunk, and chains in case you needed them. Now everyone believes that "all-season" tires will get you anywhere you want to go.
  11. I had bread bags too!! Weren't those the good old days?!
  12. Remember when girls wore snow pants to school? We had to wear dresses and when it was cold we were allowed to wear snow pants under our skirts but had to take them off when we got to school. Times have really changed!
  13. Marty Hrin of Hrin Masonry put the blocks back on the sides of the mausoleum.
  14. It is the Childs' Mausoleum because Edmund, Annie and Rosa Childs are interred there.
  15. Thank you so much to the Penn State students who came to help at the cemetery on August 23, 2013. From left to right: Kyle Gordon, Mikaela Smith, Kassondra Coulter, Codie Miller, Dale Kopchik, Steve Terwilliger, Rob DeNoon, Amanda Horner, Austin Swanson, Paul Hetrick and Andrew Hannah.
  16. The reason the Rumbarger Cemetery looks so nice is due to the hard work of our summer help. Alex Welch, Dom Kriner, Blaine Curley, Lauren Sedor and Jackie Brosky. What a fantastic group! Thank you!
  17. The Wigwam was being torn down today.
  18. Anyone who has read this far knows that there are people trying hard to make the Rumbarger Cemetery a place of which we can all be proud. This is what is located at the dumpster in the back of the cemetery. We have limited funds and now have to pay to dispose of someone's tires because they were too cheap to do it. Also, the garbage in the dumpster did not come from the cemetery. Just because there is somewhere to put trash doesn't mean you should bring it from home. Be a part of the solution, not the problem. April 20th is Clean-Up Day in DuBois and we would welcome any help to clean-up the cemetery.
  19. The DuBois Area Historical Society has scheduled their Fifth Annual Spring Walk for May 18, 2013, at 10 AM. It will be in Helvetia and led by Bill Allenbaugh. No reservations needed.
  20. From the Weekly Courier, Thursday, August 2, 1894.
  21. I have a memory of small cabins being located where the Clarion Hotel is now. Would those have been part of Edgemont or was that something totally different?
  22. You can still come to the Historical Society when it reopens in April. There is a lot to see there and a lot to learn.
