Does anyone know of a specific product to eradicate wild/out of control strawberry plants from the garden & landscape? One that will not attack evergreen shrubs (creeping juniper).

One of the Dodds that were the family that worked at the old DuBois Powdered Metals had it. I believe it was self published.

I don't go down that way very much anymore and in thinking about it, I agree.

I believe it is "Maple Dale Road" that turns off of 119 and runs to West Liberty Road, almost across 119 from where the old gas station once was.

What makes me think, though, of the other place is the sign that was there up to the past decade. Fairly certain it was a Kendall sign. Another old gas station was further down the road towards Sykesville, almost across from what is now the Eagles. Don't remember what kind of gas was sold, but it also sold boats (name was "Sallack Marine Sales"). The Eagles in that time frame was an ice cream/hot dog place called "Zimm's Diner".

The other possible location that had cabins and a gas station would be on the old Rt. 119 going into DuBois, around where Quashnock's Appliances is now located. There were also cabins out back for rent at that location.

About a half or 3/4 of a mile north of the Jefferson County line. After the straight stretch, you'll go into a curve bearing left (when traveling north). There are a few house trailers on the right and a few newer homes on the left. The station was on the right a dozen yards or so past the road going up to the house trailers. There may be remnants of a circular driveway to the station still there and up to a couple of decades ago, there was a 50's era Pontiac rusting away in the weeds. I believe there were cabins to rent behind the station, at one time.

Listening or eating????? As far as a suggestion for cooking a meatloaf, years ago I made one for camp. Mostly the same ingredients everyone is listing: breadcrumbs, an egg, catsup, etc. For something different, I put small cubes of American cheese into the mix. I shaped the meatloaf like an "unclad vixen" (if you catch my drift!). Cheese melted into wholesome goodness, except for the areas where it leached out of my vixen.

You're all twisted and lucky there are people like me and Ole Dawg to keep you all straight (in spite of our proclivity for purple spandex).

Before I lived in DuBois, though my statement was more a general one, than pointing at any specific area. I know of a large fire alongside the Dollar Store. After it, from what I was told, Eddie Levine built his clothing store. There was a large fire across from Brady/along side the State Farm agency. Many of the buildings that burned that I remember (and what Fox was referring to) were more of brick facades. You can still see some "ghosts" of firewalls, though there is no way to stop a fire that burns through a wooden roof and leaps to the next. IIRC DuBois also had several firefighters lose their lives fighting these blazes.

The downtown area of DuBois had to contend with a number of fires through the years since WWII, though it would be nice to have many of those buildings back.

Hail, after a weekend at the Polish Festival, with all the cabbage, beer and some baked beans tossed in for good measure, I'm sure I'll be pulse-jet driven and could easily leave a donut-shaped contrail.

It's a "day lilly". Reminds me of a girl I knew. Only looked good for a very short period of time.

I'm leaning towards pachysandra, but my concern is area soil dryness. I've had no luck with vinca or hosta's.

For our area, can someone help me with suggestions for a ground cover in a shady area, that sees little sun light. Also, the area is under a maple tree, with lots of shale outcropping and quick drainage. Thanks in advance. T.

A few years ago, I remember seeing a book published by one of the Dodd's from Sabula. Was primarily about the Dodd family, but it gave quite a bit of information about the entire area.
