  2. edgemont park was demolished partialy as a result of the DuBois flood and the remaider was excavated as part of the Army corps of engineers flood control project. The park was the first electric theme park in Pennsylvania and was noted as one of the premeire parks in the east coast. The DuBois traction company ran a trolly with stops in Falls creek station, Sykesville, as well as stops at both edgemont park and hand park. The bandstand was a large attraction for both company picnics as well as local entertainment and dances. Some believe that the entire park was located as previously mentioned but pictures have shown that it did not. some features of the park were infact on the right side of larkeytown bridge, but a larger portion to include bike paths, pavilions, small rides and boat launches were locatel elsewhere. The parks history is fading as did the park itself and the locating of people who attended the park has proven difficult.

  10. the child was of one of the original families of Sabula, the Osbornes. he accompanied his older brothers to the sugar shack that they had to the left of the tunnel enterance. as darkness fell he became scared and told the others that he was going to walk back home. His brothers told Him to stay on the path that he was familiar with to return back to the house. As morning came the boys returned home only to be questioned as to where the youngest son was. They told of the nights events and that he had returned home. A search party was formed by the locals and whent on through the night and again the next morning. On a third search of the wooded area searchers found the body of the child in some bushes off of the path. The body did not show any wounds leaving the locals to believe that the boy froze to death.
  11. Midstate haunts: 5 places in central Pennsylvania where ghosts abound By JULIA HATMAKER, The Patriot-News The Patriot-News on October 15, 2012 at 11:46 AM, updated October 15, 2012 at 11:55 AM Email | PrintBrought to you by
  12. will have to set it up. true investigation and respectfull
  13. the child is shy yet playfull, so large groups usualy will not produce much evidence. Keep your groups small and keep talking to a minimum. Alot of people are skeptic and explain reasonings for everything but when they can't be explained thats when you become a believer. That tunnel has been the cause of death for seven workers during construction, and 1 work foreman during the molly mcquire times. Jonothan was known to play in the tunnel before death, he chooses to continue after.
  14. I too love the thoughts of this time period. So simple so family oriented without the fear factors of today
  15. Dodge knows as do some others on here. They relate yo a young boy by the name Johnathan who was found near the tunnel in the 1800's. he was from a very prominant family of the time and was found in the woods near the tunnel enterance. His spirit is not that of a scary pesence but more of a playful one. I can PM you the specifics when I have more time. There is also a dark entity there as well
  16. the same site that you are refering to behind the skating rink was the site of the DuBois fair for a couple years as well. The meadow was flooded resulting in the fair being moved to that location. But as I said it was only twice.
  17. I could make yopur hair stand on end with some of the encounters at the Sabula lower tunnel
  18. The Winterburn school was located toward the end of winterburn road just off of rt. 255. As for edgemont park, there are conflicting recolections as to where the park was actualy located due to the flood project that rerouted the sandy lick. some say toward adrian furnace, some say behind jackson china, and some claim it is where bolbey and cole tie plant is currently. Can anyone remembers just where the park was? would love to know for sure and settle the dispute
  19. couple others, penfield bundy_mine_9099.bmp untitled_5606.bmp
  20. I would have to go over my notes but i believe this is on 255 facing DuBois. the original church is seen with the bell tower and if memory serves me correct the area in front of the penfield hotal to the church store and smith's shop was refered to as the square
