  1. Try copy and paste in your address bar. Not sure if there's anything in this one either, but it seems somewhat more...encompassing. http://files.usgwarchives.net/pa/clearfield/history/city-of-dubois.txt
  2. Again, you're likely mistaken about what church was being discussed. There was a progression of Catholic churches with St. Mike's starting up somewhere around 1911-12. St. Josephs, which was built roughly two or three years after this piece, falls in the time-frame you're looking at. I read this piece several years ago, and it deals primarily with the succession of parish priests at St. Joe's, but it also includes many of the relevant dates and events surrounding other parishes as well. It's actually a very good read. There's some items about St. Mike's on Page 3. https://dioceseoferie.org/stcathstmikedubois/images/pdf/StJosephHistory.pdf This one seems to discount your thoughts out-of-hand. https://liturgicalcenter.org/media/parish_pdf/E/e-7.1.pdf
  3. That's the wrong time frame. The church being mentioned here is likely what is now St. Joseph's (originally St. Mary). St Michael's wasn't started until somewhere around 1912.
  4. The library?!?! That must have been the shortened "straight-line" route when cruising was starting to flatline. Back in the early- to mid-80's, it was out of McDonald's with a right at Park, down to Shankel's and left up through town. Of course, that was when there were actually a few things, other than old-age homes, still in the downtown area.
  5. You are correct. However, the fine seems insufficient to dissuade others from such practice in the future.
  6. If you were never added as a poster there, you shouldn't have been able to view it. Perhaps it just caught up to you.
  7. I find that happens to me as well. Also, when I get the notification box that someone has replied to the thread, when I click on the link in it to see the post, it does nothing. I usually have to go up and refresh the page manually to see the latest post. Still, I consider that to be a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. I think, as a whole, it's been a much easier transition than what I first envisioned.
  8. "It took a little while to get her warmed up. She sure is a stubborn one, and then POW all at once."
  9. So it all comes down to this...it seems all you're after are "chick pics". BWAHAHAHAHAHA
  10. Sounds like Petee already has some banding to do.
  11. Sorry my man, I'm voting with Bon. Let's face it - you gotta remember where you've been before you can figure out where you're going.
  12. You know, despite your thorough and detailed explanations throughout this thread, someone just stumbling across this post could be easily confused by exactly what you're trying to discuss here. This is the drawback of the written word.
  13. And don't get them wet or feed them after midnight. Wait. Wrong species.
  14. I guess this will mean that Bon will now have to draw up new escape plans in case of a winter disaster.
  15. Cheesesteaks? Um, no. That's representative of Philthadelphia not Pennsylvania as a whole. I'd say that a simple Hershey bar would have been far more appropriate.
  16. I do believe you are spot-on. If you look further, the building at the extreme front-right of the photo appears to be the same church that still stands on the corner of Weber and Brady.
  17. Not sure that it is an annex. I've always known it as the Oklahoma Cemetery. If there was an "annex" I'd think that it would be the little dog-leg that runs off St. Catherines cemetery from the corner of Weber down Simmons St. I know for years that part was unused but I saw recently that they've added a mausoleum or something.
  18. True, again. But it would have to be one heck of LARGE knoll. It also doesn't take into consideration that, even though that part of the city might seem like a low area, it's actually on a small ridge. Now look at the positioning of the house you pointed out earlier. Those houses don't sit on a ridge. Trust me, I thought I had this nailed too but, that ridge and other items that "should" be there, keep getting in the way.
  19. I agree. But the problem isn't perspective. If you look at the slope of the land those two house sit on (look particularly at the house on the left from the corner of the porch to the left of the photo), they clearly sit on a higher piece of ground. Without some major excavation, that limits where those two houses could be.
  20. That's a good guess. I've been caught in that same area. The only problem is that those houses in the front sit higher that the one that you have highlighted. That has never been the case with the park/legion area. It's always been a lowland.
  21. I think that's a much better guess considering the placement of the houses.
  22. Don't think that it could be in the Meadow. The rise on the ground is too high and it would also put the houses behind it there, too. I don't think there was ever that kind of building out there.
  23. Turns out the guy was right! There was no stump! Of course, he neglected to mention that either he or some of his cohorts went in and took it out but...well, that's another story. After reading his response to the comments, it should have been easy to spot the hoax. After all, how did he manage to correctly spell "My first sighting from the road" that was labeled on his original pic! HAHAHAHAHA.
  24. Good call on the stump. It looks like the only thing "moving" in the numerous photos is the camera position.
