The next meeting of the BUDS Gardeners will be held onThursday, October 5 at 6:00 P.M.in the basement social hall of the First United Presbyterian Church at43 West Scribner Avenue, DuBois. Entry is through the red door at STREET level on West Scribner Ave. The public is invited. A light supper will be provided.
The program titledGoat Milk Products & Morewill be presented by Pennie Christie of Cherish Creamery.
Cherish Creamery is a Certified Naturally Grown farm and a PA licensed pasteurized goat dairy located halfway between DuBois and Punxsutawney. They offer whole goat milk, drinkable goat milk yogurt, feta cheese and several flavors of chevre cheese.
There are many nutritional and health benefits to consuming goat milk, which is often tolerated by those who are lactose intolerant.
Products sold by Cherish Creamery will be available for sampling and sale at the meeting.
Cherish Creamery treats their animals as much as possible with herbs and homeopathics.
The farm is also home to Icelandic and Jacob sheep, which are ancient breeds.
Pennie will also explain how the byproducts from the cheese making process, the goats, and sheep can be employed in soil amendments. She will also discuss the many uses of wool.
Their barn roof has many solar panels,which assists hot water use in the creamery.
