Everett Eugene Lyle, 87, a resident of Treasure Lake, in DuBois, Clearfield County, died at home on May 5, 2022.

Born March 26, 1935, in his parents’ home in Ridgway, Elk County, Everett was a son of the late Gene and Grace Lyle. He had two siblings, Jane (Lyle) Trumbull and Warren Lyle. He was predeceased by his first wife, Janet (Pomroy) Lyle, and his second wife, Bonnie (McKay) Lyle, who passed away in 2011. He spent the past 10 years in the company of Althea Buehler, a childhood friend with whom he reconnected following Bonnie’s death.

In addition to Althea, Everett is survived by three children: Bill McKay, husband of Janemarie, Shillington; Sharon, wife of Brian Folmar, DuBois; and Doug Lyle, of South Carolina. He was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Although family members are spread out across several states, Everett enjoyed spending time together during family trips and gatherings.

Everett graduated from Ridgway High School and attended Grove City College, after which he joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea. After completing his military service, he continued his education at Slippery Rock State College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education.

Everett began his career as a district executive with the Boy Scouts of America, positioned in Bradford and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He spent the majority of his career with the American Cancer Society, serving in local, state, and national leadership roles. Among the areas he served were Pittsburgh, Hershey, New York City, and Atlanta. He retired from the American Cancer society in 1992 as a senior vice president.

Always an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast, Everett was a three-sport athlete at Ridgway High School. He continued playing football at Grove City College and was captain of the college’s rifle team. An accomplished marksman, he earned multiple National Rifle Association marksmen awards, as well as numerous awards for trap shooting and high-powered rifle silhouette shooting. Hunting was Everett’s lifelong passion, especially when he was accompanied by family and friends. The Pennsylvania woods – notably Game Lands 44 – were home to him. He also hunted in several western states, Alaska, and Canada. Upon retiring, he and Bonnie relocated to Treasure Lake, where he enjoyed golfing and dining out with friends.

At Everett’s request there will be no formal services at this time.

Memorial contributions can be made to Penn Highlands Hospice, The American Cancer Society and PA Wildlife Habitat Unlimited.
