William R. “Bill” Heitzenrater, age 74 of DuBois, PA died Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at his home.


Born on July 3, 1948 in Punxsutawney, PA, he was the son of the late H. Vaughn and J. Ethel (Bodenhorn) Heitzenrater.


On April 20, 1968 he married Judith “Judy” (Leksell) Heitzenrater. She survives.


Bill was a 1966 graduate of Punxsutawney High School. Upon graduating from Penn State University, DuBois with an Electrical and Electronic Technology Associate Degree, he went to work for Bell of PA in Harrisburg, working 13 years in the Engineering Circuit Layout Bureau. In 1981 he transferred to Outside Facilities Engineering in DuBois until  his retirement in 2002.


Bill served for six years with the United States Army Reserve, 316th Station Hospital as a medical corpsman, achieving the rank of SP5. He was also an adult leader with the Boy Scouts of America for 18 years.


In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by two children; Christina (Mike) Delp of Coudersport, PA and Richard Heitzenrater of Corpus Cristi, TX, three grandchildren; Noah and Nash Delp and Kylie Heitzenrater, one sister Yvonne (Laverne) Thompson of Big Run, PA and one brother Charles Heitzenrater of Erie, PA.


He was preceded in death by three brothers; Gene, Bob and Paul Heitzenrater and one sister; Wanda Freas.


There will be no public visitation.  A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at      1 PM from Sabula United Methodist Church with Pastor Butch Brunner officiating.


The Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.


Memorial donations may be sent to the Hahne Cancer Center, 100 Hospital Avenue or Sabula United Methodist Church, 259 Kilmer Road both in DuBois, PA 15801.
