James “Jim” Zavatsky, 71, of DuBois PA, passed away Monday, November 27th, 2023 at his home surrounded by family.

Jim was born on April 30th, 1952 to John and Jean (Tomporoski) Zavatsky in DuBois, PA. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Army Reserves and began a long career as a machinist. Jim worked for Berg Electronics for 20 years, then later retiring from Pace Precision.

On July 11th, 1981, Jim married the love of his life, Sandra (DeMotte) Zavatsky. They were married for 42 years.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman. He loved doing anything outside—whether it was hunting (especially archery), fishing, or just sitting on his back deck with a hot cup of coffee and enjoying the beauty of his land and the nature around him.

One of the biggest highlights of Jim’s hunting years happened on a trip to Michigan where he met and got to hunt alongside Ted Nugent, the musician, and also harvested a wild boar. He loved to show everyone the pictures from that trip and reminisce about what an amazing time he had.

After retirement, Jim and Sandi started a new adventure and made many wonderful memories together traveling, camping, and visiting family and friends all over the United States.

Jim leaves behind his three children, Jamie (Jason) Davis of Tucson, AZ; Justin (Sarah) Shaginaw of Philadelphia, PA; and Krisha (Colin) Oates of DuBois, PA. His eight grandchildren, Jacquelyn Oates of Denver, CO; Austin (Taylor) Coccimiglio of Wellington, CO; Delaney Oates of Carlson, CO; Victoria Nivison and fiancée, Matt Curtis of Tucson, AZ; Allyson (Jacob) Rein of Key West, FL; James Davis of Tucson, AZ;  Aubrey Coccimiglio of DuBois, PA; and Andie Shaginaw of Philadelphia, PA. His three great-children, Mackenzie and Knoxley Curtis, and Brody Coccimiglio. Jim is also survived by his brother, Bill (Marsha) Zavatsky of DuBois, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; Raymond and Harold Zavatsky; and his father- and mother in-law, Bill and Helen (Hetrick) DeMotte.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 4 PM – 6 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. in DuBois, PA.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11 AM from the funeral home with Msgr. Richard Siefer officiating.
