Kent R. DeWyer, age 90 of DuBois, PA, died Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Christ the King Manor.


Born on August 26, 1933 in Rockton, PA, he was the son of the late Vernon and Ferol (Rupert) DeWyer.


On July 12, 1954 he married his wife of 69 years, E. Lee (Gifford) DeWyer. She preceded him in death on October 21, 2023.


Kent was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War.


He retired from the United States Postal Service after 32 years of service. He was the longtime post master in Brockport, Pennsylvania.  Previous to that, he had worked for the DuBois Brewing Company.


Kent was a member of the George D. Montgomery American Legion Post 17. He was an avid golfer and member of the Treasure Lake Men’s Golf Association where he was also club champ.  Kent was a volunteer at Parkside Community Center for many years and loved going to the Beaver Meadow Walkway daily.  Above all, he loved to follow all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren and their many activities.


He is survived by his three children (Debra Johnston, Corinne Shick, and J.R. DeWyer & his wife Beth, all of DuBois, PA), 5 grandchildren (Andy Johnston & his wife Sarah, Tim Shick and his wife Mandi, Katie Hughes and her husband Chris, Aaron DeWyer, and Natalie Jaggi and her husband Alex), 6 great grandchildren, (J.T.  & Alex Hughes; Colby & Hope Shick, and Caroline & Andrew Johnston), and 2 sisters (Greta Crawford and Eunice Graafsma).


He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter (Denise DeWyer), 3 sisters (Elaine LaBorde, June Fitzpatrick, and Yvonne Mullen), and a brother (Rupert DeWyer).


Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.


A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home with Pastor Terry Felt officiating.


Full military honors will be accorded from the funeral home by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.


Memorial donations may be made to the Gateway Humane Society, P.O. Box  678, Falls Creek, PA 15840, and/or Parkside Community Center, 120 W. Park Ave., DuBois, PA 15801.
