Administrators Pompeii Posted March 8 Administrators Share Posted March 8 Shirley R. Player, age 88, of DuBois, PA died on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at her home. Born on November 21, 1935 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Allison and Betty (Kelichner) Wayne. On September 7, 1957 she married her husband of 65 years, Robert I. “Rip” Player. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2023. Shirley was a graduate of Sandy High School. She had worked at Woolworth Department Store, at Bell Telephone as an operator, and had most recently worked for over 20 years at Fashion Bug in DuBois, PA. Shirley was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was an avid gardener and dog lover and believed strongly in pet adoption. She also enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives. She was the Pittsburgh Steelers “biggest fan”, and enjoyed watching Penn State football as well. Shirley is survived by three children, (Jeff Player, Roberta “Bobbi” Zartman and husband Randy, and Rebecca Caudell, all of DuBois, PA) five grandchildren (Mitchell, Mason, Jesse, Alexa, and Natalie), three great grandchildren, one brother (Thomas Wayne and his wife Janet of DuBois, PA), and numerous nieces , nephews and cousins. Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved “fur” kids. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 from 12 pm – 1 pm at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday at 1 PM from the funeral home with Pastor Terry Felt officiating. Burial will take place in Morningside Cemetery.
