John Yebernetsky (age 91)

John Yebernetsky, 91, of DuBois, PA died on Friday, April 19, 2024 at his home.


Born on April 30, 1932 at home in Madera, he was the son of the late Wasco and Annie (Peslipsky) Yebernetsky.


On May 16, 1959 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ramey, PA John married the former Helen Priselac who survives along with their three children, Theresa (Jacques) Courtillet of Alexandria, VA, Carl (Lisa) Yebernetsky of DuBois, PA and Mary Jo Yebernetsky (Randy Orcutt) of Rockton, PA; five grandchildren, Kyle (Jessica) Yebernetsky, Andrew Courtillet, Molly Yebernetsky (Brad Dryer), Kevin Courtillet, and Katlyn (Eric) Routch; four great-grandchildren, Oaklyn, Henry, Laurel, and Brooks Yebernetsky; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.


John was the last of his generation and was preceded in death by his siblings, Annie Daniels, Wasco “Lefty” Yebernetsky, Jr., Mary Fetchu, Mike Yebernetsky,  George Yebernetsky, Kathryn Youhon, Eva Checkaneck,  Nancy Wasilko, Harry Yebernetsky, and Margaret Kitko.


He was a graduate Moshannon Joint High School, Madera, PA.  Upon graduation, he attended Williamsport Technical Institute graduating with a degree in electrical service.  John retired from Penelec in 1995 after 35 years of service as a lineman, then line clerk.  He also previously worked at Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven.


John was a Korean War Era veteran and served in the U.S. Army.


He played the violin, starting at the age of five, and played many other instruments later in life including the mandolin, guitar, accordion, and banjo.  He was in a band with his brother and neighbors, playing at school events, dances, and weddings.  All of his brothers were in a band and often they would play together when they visited.


John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a member of the Olympic Club, DuBois.  
He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, DuBois.


Friends will be received on Monday, April 22, 2024 from 4-8 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.


Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Parish at St. Catherine of Siena with Msgr. Richard Siefer and Father Ben Daghir as con-celebrants along with Deacon Dan Satterlee.


Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the church.
Interment will be in St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Ramey, PA.
