Robert S. Rehm, Jr. of DuBois, PA (Treasure Lake) and Spring Hill, FL, formerly of Indiana, PA passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Bayonet Point Hospital in Hudson, FL. Born on July 4, 1930 in Indiana, PA, he was the son of the late Robert and Twila (Sloan) Rehm. On September 25, 1953 he married his wife of 69 years, Dorothy (Kromer) Rehm. She survives. He is also survived by one daughter Susan Rehm of Phoenix, AZ, one son Richard Rehm of Fort Worth, TX, three granddaughters; Megan Glover (Brandon) of Waco, TX, Courtney Klesel (Jason) of Dallas, TX and Rachel Rehm of Dallas, TX. Bob was a 1948 graduate of the Indiana High School and a 1952 graduate of Indiana University. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, received a commission, and was assigned to a construction battalion in Korea where he was involved with the restoration of a school and a medical clinic at a small Korean village that had been destroyed in the war. Upon his release from the service, he became employed by the Pennsylvania Electric Company where he spent the remainder of his working life. He filled various positions, starting as an Engineering Assistant in Punxsutawney, PA and ending his career in 1990 as the Division Director in the Clearfield Central Division office. While in Clearfield, he was active in community work. He was a member and past president of the hospital board , a member and past president of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Clearfield Foundation, United Way Board and DuBois Educational Foundation. Bob was an avid golfer for over 40 years with three holes-in-one to his credit. He especially enjoyed both courses at Treasure Lake. He also liked water skiing and working around the yard. His very favorite hobby for over 50 years was his music. He was an accomplished trumpet player and was active with several groups over the years. He was Principal Trumpeter with the Jaffa Temple Concert and Marching Band for over 25 years. Bob was Methodist by faith. Fraternally, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Punxsutawney, Coudersport Consistory, Jaffa Shrine in Altoona and the Jaffa Jesters Court #70. He was also a member of the Clearfield Elks and the DuBois American Legion. There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial will take place in Morningside Cemetery. Shirley Anna Harris, age 86 of DuBois, PA died peacefully, and walked into the arms of her Lord on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. Born on December 13, 1936 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Hauck) Reasinger. Shirley married Harry W. Harris. He preceded her in death in October of 1994. Shirley had retired from Owens Brockway Glass Company after 37 years of service. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friend Doris in Sykesville, and loved her dog Fancy. Shirley loved all sports, and rooted for all of the Pittsburgh teams. She also looked forward to, and enjoyed going for a ride with her son every weekend. Shirley is survived by one son, Sandy “Mike” Harris of DuBois, PA, two daughters; Sherry Trammell and her fiancé Dave Walker of Sykesville, PA and Susan Pringle and her husband David of DuBois, PA, two grandchildren; Cryssi Park and William Pringle and six great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one sister Joann Smith and one granddaughter Kayla Hewitt. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2023 from 1 – 3 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 13, 2023 at 10 AM from the funeral home with Pastor Harold Hills officiating. Burial will take place in Rockton Cemetery. Ben Daghir when he was a student studying for the priesthood at St. Mary's Seminary & University in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a deacon when he delivered this message on the Feast of St. Scholastica, February 10, 2022. Article: Today we celebrate the Memorial of St. Scholastica. She was a virgin, celibate, and chaste spouse of Christ. The contemporary culture laughs at virginity, celibacy, and chastity - it mocks these virtues, and simply sees them as a weakness. God, on the other hand, calls many people to remain virgins for the sake of the Kingdom. Virginity, celibacy, and chastity are grounded not in the culture, but rather in Christ. There’s something particularly life-giving and powerful about virginal love. It participates in God’s love for humanity and Christ’s love for the Church. While preparing for this Memorial, of the Virgin St. Scholastica, I was reminded of one of the most influential books that I have read while in seminary. The book is written by Cardinal Cantalamessa and is entitled “Virginity.” Cantalamessa discusses how God created the universe - ex nihilo, out of nothing. Therefore, only one party is involved in the creation of the universe. In fact, all the wild diversity of creation that we see from the stars to vast seas to plants, animals, and humans - all of this comes from God’s virginal love. Although the culture may laugh at virginity, the whole universe exists because of it. Virginal love is life-giving. We also see the outpouring of life through the perpetual virginity of the Virgin Mary. Mary gave birth to “the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For in him were created all things in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible.” Again, virginal love is life-giving. Shifting from Creation and the Incarnation, we can turn our gaze to Christ on the Cross who wears the crown of Virginity. There we see the Virgin, the celibate, the chaste man - there we see our vocation, there we see happiness, and there we see life in its fullness. So, how do we respond to our contemporary culture that mocks virginity, celibacy and chastity? G.K. Chesterton once stated, “Each generation is converted by the saint who contradicts the culture the most.” The Virgin contradicts the culture to the extreme. Likewise, the celibate radically contradicts the culture. Quite similarly, the chaste person contradicts the culture in a beautiful way. May the Virgin St. Scholastica intercede for us that we become evangelists in the most convincing manner…by our witness. ======================== Fr. Ben Daghir is a priest for the Diocese of Erie. Joseph Becker, known by most as “Dad,” “Papa,” or “Joe,” passed away on January 24th, 2023 in his Rochester, New York home. He was 76 years old. Papa served in the United States Army for two years during Vietnam, where he repaired communication systems. He spent 25 years at Xerox from 1981-2006. As a father and grandfather, Papa was funny, stubborn, and he loved to tease, but most importantly, he was loving and caring. He is survived by his children: Danielle R. DeLong, Joseph B. Becker (Kristen), and Stephanie A. Everett (Reggie); his sisters Joan G. Becker and Iona R. Snyder (Arnold); thirteen grandchildren; one great grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Blake I. Becker and Rosella M. Becker, brother Blake I. Becker Jr., sisters Margaret M. Kobik and Judith E. Becker. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 10 – 11 AM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 AM from the funeral home with Pastor Harold Hills officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the funeral home. Burial will take place in Beechwoods Cemetery.
