Russia/US Prisoner Exchange Negotiations Underway, Including Basketball Star Griner Negotiations have begun between Moscow and Washington for a prisoner exchange involving women’s basketball star Brittney Griner, former Marine Paul Whelan and Russia’s Viktor Bout. Griner pleaded guilty to drug charges earlier this month and faces up to 10 years in prison, while Whelan was convicted of espionage charges in 2020; Bout is serving a 25-year sentence after being extradited to the US in 2008 on narco-terrorism charges. Born on July 10, 1943 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph L. and Mary E. (Weaver) Reitz. On July 15, 1967 she married Merle K. Wingard. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1999. Carol had been a partner in Wingard & Wingard Associates, LLC. She is survived by her three children; Barry L. Wingard Ph.D., Jamie K. Wingard and his wife Judith L., and Hayley S. Wingard, four grandchildren; Kayla Yoder and her husband Clayton, Lindsey Stump, Kaytlynn Wingard and Silas Wingard, a sister; Beverly Reagle, a brother; Thomas Reitz and his wife Debbie, and a sister- in-law Edie Reitz. Carol was preceded in death by brothers; Daniel and Donnie Reitz and brother-in-law; Carl Reagle. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 2 -4 PM and 6 – 8 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. Additional visitation will be held at Temple Baptist Church, on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 10 AM until 10:45 AM.
