AARP DRIVER SAFETY COURSE OFFERED The Clearfield Center for Active Living, in partnership with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), is offering area individuals aged 50 and older the opportunity to take the AARP Driver Safety course. The classroom course was developed by AARP to help drivers remain safe on today

The North Central PA Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), Foradora Insurance, Bee-Extreme, Packages and More, DuBois Business College, DuBois Country Club, and the Greater DuBois Chamber Of Commerce and Economic Development will hold a benefit buffet for the Toys for Tots program at the DuBois Country Club on Monday, November 11th from 5:30 - 7:30 PM. The price of admission will be a new, unwrapped toy or a $15 donation made which will be donated to the Toys for Tots program. Toys for Tots is a great opportunity to help children in our area. This event is also a great opportunity for networking with fellow employers in the area. Entertainment will be provided by Chuck Sallows, local humorist and inspirational speaker. Please plan on attending this event which will benefit local children. The Toys for Tots program is sponsored in cooperation with the United State Marine Corp. This event is a fundraiser for the Clearfield County SPCA. Tickets are $20 each and are available at the following locations: The Clearfield County SPCA at 275 21st Street West Side Distributing at 319 West Front Street Waggin Trains at 1226 South Second Street or by calling 592-2665. The event will feature many craft beer varieties and will include company representatives on hand to answer questions. There will also be non-beer vendors, food available for purchase, 50-50 and other raffles and live entertainment by local favorites Covered in Jelly. Admission includes a souvenir can koozie.   14. DuBois Regional Medical Center Hospice is holding a memorial service in memory of patients who died between Feb. 1 and July 31, 2013. This non-denominational service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 20 at the DuBois Alliance Church, 1004 S. Main St., DuBois. A reception with light refreshments will immediately follow the service in the gathering area for those who wish to stay.

  18. Free Antique Appraisals at Mahaffey Center for Active Living The Mahaffey Center for Active Living invites area residents 50 and older to the Center to receive free antique appraisals. Tuesday, October 22, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Pat Errigo, local auctioneer, will provide appraisals in the format similar to those done in the popular Antiques Roadshow program. Mr. Errigo has been in the antique business for close to 50 years. He is a member of the PA Auctioneers Association, the National Auctioneers Association, and the Mid-State Appraisers Association. Attendees are invited to bring along one or two items to be appraised, but please, nothing larger than can be carried in two hands. Curiosity seekers are invited also. You do not need to bring an item to enjoy the program. There are no reservations needed. However, those interested in having lunch at the Center, prior to the program, are asked to call the day before to make a meal reservation. Any Clearfield County individual 60 or older may contribute to the cost of the meal on a donation basis. The cost to those under age 60 is $3.50. The Mahaffey Center for Active is located in the Mahaffey Fire Hall, 958 Market Street, Mahaffey and is open Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Information on programs, meals, and activities is available by calling the Center at 277-4544 or 1-800-225-8571 or by visiting the CCAAA website at www.ccaaa.net.   19. Pastor Pens Gossip Book Dr. Matt Mitchell has been the Pastor of Lanse Evangelical Free Church in Lanse, PA since 1998. He is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and Westminster Theological Seminary. He lives in Lanse with his wife, Heather, and four kids: Robin, Andrew, Peter, and Isaac. He writes a regular blog about the Bible and life called "Hot Orthodoxy" at matt-mitchell.blogspot.com and is the author of the new book Resisting Gossip: Winning the War of the Wagging Tongue (CLC Publications). The idea for the book took root five years ago while Mitchell was attending seminary school and was published September 3, 2013. Mitchell will be at the Kylertown Center for Active Living on Friday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. to talk about the perils and wickedness of gossiping. There are no reservations needed for the program. However, those interested in having lunch afterward at the Center are asked to call at least one day prior to the event to make a meal reservation. Any Clearfield County individual 60 years of age or older may contribute to the cost of the meal on a donation basis. The cost to those under age 60 is $3.50. The center is located at the Kylertown Center for Active Living at 70 Senior Drive, Kylertown, PA 16847.
