Nice pictures everyone, really enjoyed them.

I have some creeping phlox that is really getting thick. I would like to get rid of some and would be willing to give it away. PM me... if the garden club would like some for their sale, please contact me.

By the way the boys are dressed and their hats, I would say around 1915 give or take a few years. I have a picture of my dad and a lot of other young men dressed about the same as the picture. It was taken in Big Soldier.

Did you bring in branches and put them in water?

I have bought quite a few different brands of suet and the birds don't like them. I now make my own recipe and freeze them using waxed paper between the forms. I don't do the paper lined muffin tins.
1/2 cup peanut butter
2 1/2 cups cornmeal
1 cup birdseed
1/2 cup beef suet ( I use left over frech fry grease )
Cut beef suet in small pieces and cook over low flame in a heavy skillet until melted
Combine peanut butter, mixed birdseed, cornmeal and melted beef suet.
Spoon into paper-lined muffin tins. When partially hardened, insert 6-inch loops of cord in the middle by first poking a hole in the cake with an ice pick. Remove cakes and hang when thoroughly hardened, or store in the freezer until you're ready for them. (

1-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1-1/2 cups whipped topping
2 cups sugar
1/3 cup cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups water, divided (1/4 c)(1 3/4c)
3 eggs
1/4 cup vinegar
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon lemon extract
Cut butter into flour until crumbly. Stir in pecans. Press into the bottom of an ungreased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan.

Add vinegar, lemon juice and remaining water; stir until smooth. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly; boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat; add butter and extract. Cool.
Spread over cream cheese layer. Chill 2 hours or overnight. Yield: 12-16 servings.

A good product but if your skin is sensitive you had better wear gloves.

Mine are on the red side but when someone posted quite a while back I just figured that was what mine were. Sorry for the confusion.

Some time ago someone wanted some mauve trillium. I brought some back from camp today. Please pm me.

With all this wet weather now would be a good time to transplant. I've transplanted mine throughout the year, just have to wait for flowers.... and ants.

When is the sale? DATE?
-
Do you want any creeping flock for your sale? I was told they should not be transplanted until August, is that correct? Anyway, I need to thin mine so you are welcome to them.

If I remember (ahem) I will freeze a couple bags for you and you can get them in the fall.

We have wild blackberries here, and I can tell you, the need lots of water to thrive. During years when the summers are not so wet, we end up with small dry berries that are very seed-y. During wet years, we get plump and juicy berries as big as my thumb.
We have blackberries where we camp along the river and the berries are huge. No need to go looking anywhere else for them. I still have some in my freezer. Made so many pies and lots of seedless jelly. Get tired of making pies as they are not my favorite.

I bought some new bulbs in 06 and they started to come up and wham!! All gone! I think the deer chewed them right to the ground. We put up a net fence and they did come back up. The net fence was put up last fall and my hyacinths are coming up very strong.

Thanks for the pictures, they give us hope that Spring is just around the corner.
As I said earlier I was going to Florida - well I had a great time and the flowers are all in bloom as they probably are all the time.
I had a grapefruit right from the tree and it was delicious.
It was hard coming back to our weather. I had to laugh when the weatherman in FL said it was going to drop down to a cold 69. We should be so lucky. ;D

We have had city water for about 4 years now. It is sooo nice. All those years of well water - rusty clothes - orange bathtub, dry well, UGG.
-
WATER. We need water in DuBois.
-
I can store them in my garage, no problem. Thanks anyway Petee.
pm'd you snellma

We have a guy that wants them just to use the husk for stain.
-
We have several bushels of black walnuts if anyone wants them. They are free, just bring your container. First come basis. We live near DRMC West - PM me and I will give you directions.
-
Put it on ice cream. I have had mine not set with both Sure Jell and Certo. I think the key is "sugar" and "Full rolling boil for one minute.'
-
Directions for jelly not setting are on the insert that came with Certo. They are almost the same as what Lavender got from Penn State. I don't put mine in boiling bath, I seal the jars and invert them on my wooden cutting board and then cover them with a tea towel until cool. When you turn them over they are sealed.
Carpet Steamer Cleaner?
in From Scratch
Posted
I have checked the interent for a recipe for my carpet scrubber and it was so confusing. Today I wanted to scrub my carpets and I am pleased with the results. I took 2/3 cup of my homemade laundry detergent, 1/3 cup white vinegar and 1 gallon hot water. Don't add the hot water to your detergent as it will make too many bubbles. Fill your container 3/4 full then add the detergent and rest of water.
