  1. I have checked the interent for a recipe for my carpet scrubber and it was so confusing. Today I wanted to scrub my carpets and I am pleased with the results. I took 2/3 cup of my homemade laundry detergent, 1/3 cup white vinegar and 1 gallon hot water. Don't add the hot water to your detergent as it will make too many bubbles. Fill your container 3/4 full then add the detergent and rest of water.

  2. By the way the boys are dressed and their hats, I would say around 1915 give or take a few years. I have a picture of my dad and a lot of other young men dressed about the same as the picture. It was taken in Big Soldier.

  3. I have bought quite a few different brands of suet and the birds don't like them. I now make my own recipe and freeze them using waxed paper between the forms. I don't do the paper lined muffin tins.

    1/2 cup peanut butter

    2 1/2 cups cornmeal

    1 cup birdseed

1/2 cup beef suet ( I use left over frech fry grease )

Cut beef suet in small pieces and cook over low flame in a heavy skillet until melted

Combine peanut butter, mixed birdseed, cornmeal and melted beef suet.

Spoon into paper-lined muffin tins. When partially hardened, insert 6-inch loops of cord in the middle by first poking a hole in the cake with an ice pick. Remove cakes and hang when thoroughly hardened, or store in the freezer until you're ready for them. (

  4. Layered Lemon Dessert

    1 cup all-purpose flour

    6 tablespoons butter

    1/2 cup finely chopped pecans

    FILLING

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

    1-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar

    1-1/2 cups whipped topping

    2 cups sugar

    1/3 cup cornstarch

    1/4 teaspoon salt

    2 cups water, divided (1/4 c)(1 3/4c)

    3 eggs

    1/4 cup vinegar

    1/4 cup lemon juice

    1 tablespoon butter

    1 teaspoon lemon extract

Cut butter into flour until crumbly. Stir in pecans. Press into the bottom of an ungreased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool.

Beat cream cheese and confectioners' sugar until fluffy. Fold in whipped topping. Spread over crust; chill.

In a saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Add 1/4 cup water and stir until smooth. Add eggs and mix well.

Add vinegar, lemon juice and remaining water; stir until smooth. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly; boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat; add butter and extract. Cool.

Spread over cream cheese layer. Chill 2 hours or overnight. Yield: 12-16 servings.

  5. We have wild blackberries here, and I can tell you, the need lots of water to thrive.  During years when the summers are not so wet, we end up with small dry berries that are very seed-y.  During wet years, we get plump and juicy berries as big as my thumb.

We have blackberries where we camp along the river and the berries are huge. No need to go looking anywhere else for them. I still have some in my freezer. Made so many pies and lots of seedless jelly. Get tired of making pies as they are not my favorite.

  6. I bought some new bulbs in 06 and they started to come up and wham!! All gone! I think the deer chewed them right to the ground. We put up a net fence and they did come back up.  The net fence was put up last fall and my hyacinths are coming up very strong.

  7. Thanks for the pictures, they give us hope that Spring is just around the corner.

As I said earlier I was going to Florida - well I had a great time and the flowers are all in bloom as they probably are all the time.

I had a grapefruit right from the tree and it was delicious.

It was hard coming back to our weather. I had to laugh when the weatherman in FL said it was going to drop down to a cold 69. We should be so lucky.  ;D

  8. Directions for jelly not setting are on the insert that came with Certo. They are almost the same as what Lavender got from Penn State. I don't put mine in boiling bath, I seal the jars and invert them on my wooden cutting board and then cover them with a tea towel until cool. When you turn them over they are sealed.
