  1. Laurie A. Peterson, age 60 of DuBois, PA died Monday, May 2, 2022 at her home. Born on April 9, 1962 in Rochester, MI, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence B. and Priscilla (Davidson) Toney. Laurie was a homemaker. She is survived by her children (Jamie Duttry and her wife Lydya of Uniontown, PA and Mary OBryon of Pittsburgh, PA), two grandchildren (Livia Peterson and Glenn OBryon) and one great grandchild (Emberlee Peterson), and siblings (Michael Toney & his wife Susan of Mahaffey, PA, David Toney and his wife Patricia of Grampian, PA, John Toney and his wife Valerie of DuBois, PA, Geri Scalf & her husband Larry of Sevier, TN and Daniel Toney & his wife Patricia of DuBois, PA). Laurie was preceded in death by one daughter Lee Ann Peterson and her longtime companion Harold “Chip” Duttry. There will be no public visitation and all services will be private.   2. Tressa A. Zurenda, Age 81 of Punxsutawney, PA died Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Mulberry Square in Punxsutawney, PA. Born on April 27, 1941 in Johnstown, PA, she was the daughter of the late August & Bessie (Bickle) Zurenda. Tressa was a Christian and enjoyed going to church. She also loved tending to her plants and going to yard sales. She is survived by 4 children (Ella Fetterman & her husband Robbie, Lee Galentine & his wife Joanne, Theresa Bryan & her husband Duane, and Ben Galentine & his wife Eileen), as well as numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Joel, a brother and two sisters. There will be no public visitation and all service will be private.   3. John C. Guzzo, Jr., age 87 of DuBois, PA died Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Christ the King Manor. Born on January 27, 1935 in Brockway, PA, he was the son of the late John C. and Hilda F. (Russo) Guzzo, Sr. On October 2, 1954 he married his wife of 67 years, Theresa (Mangino) Guzzo. She survives. He graduated from Youngstown State University where he played football. John was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He retired from Penn Traffic as Vice President /Chief Information Officer after 23 years of service. After retirement he worked for the Arthur Andersen Consulting Firm. John was a member of St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 17, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 813, Brockway Sons of Italy and was an avid Notre Dame fan. He also enjoyed golfing, however his greatest joy was following his three grandsons and their many athletic activities. John is survived by his loving daughter (Lori Kriner and her husband Keith), his grandsons (Dylan and his wife Brooke and Dominic and Cole Kriner), his two great grandchildren Bailey Rose and Mac Gianni Kriner), his son (John Guzzo and his wife Susan), and daughter (Betty Lou Redmond and her husband Mike and their children Michael and Alex). He was preceded in death by one sister (Janet Summerline). Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 8, 2022 from 1 PM– 4 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 10 AM from St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard. Born on March 14, 1961 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Concannon and Joan Gallagher. On August 35, 1990 she married J. Daniel De Los Rios. He survives. Margaret was a homemaker. She is survived by three children (Lee Ann Donnelly, William Donnelly and Daniel Donnelly), nine grandchildren (Harley, Elizabeth, Katelyn, Ashley, Brian,Jr., Armani, Dillon, Angel & Cohen), and two great grandchildren (Brooklyn and Elliott). She was preceded in death by one son (Steven Donnelly), and one granddaughter (Arya Donnelly). There will be no public visitation and a private funeral service will be held.   5. Harold Duppre, age 88, of DuBois, PA went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 2, 2022 at Christ the King Manor. Born on February 26, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Elmer A. and Elsie (Maisel) Duppre. On June 9, 1956 he married his wife of 65 years, Barbara L. (McClatchey) Duppre. She survives. Harold had worked as a Branch Manager for W.W. Williams Detroit Diesel Distribution in Toledo, OH from 1988 – 1997. Previous to that, he had worked for W.W. Williams in Pennsylvania for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in DuBois. Harold was a lifelong archery enthusiast, loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed woodcarving. He is also survived by his two daughters (Leah M. Mollica and her husband Sam of DuBois, PA and Linda Schwartz of Curwensville, PA) and four grandchildren (Christina Peterson and Samantha Javorsky and Chad and Paul Schwartz), 6 great grandchildren (Dante & Anthony Peterson and Saylor Javorsky, and Sabrina, Andrew, & Kaleb Schwartz), and a great-great grandchild (Zoey Smith). Visitation will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.   7. Donna J. Rafferty, age 90 of DuBois, PA died Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. Born February 28, 1932 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Chester W. & Myrtle W. (Spencer) Rafferty. Donna retired after over 40 years of service as a flight attendant. After a brief career in banking, she began working for Western Airlines based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and finished her career with Delta Airlines out of San Francisco, California. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Donna loved her cats and loved traveling. Her job afforded her the opportunity to visit places all over the world. She is survived by a brother (Buck Rafferty of DuBois, PA), a sister (Joan “Jan” Schoch of New Smyrna Beach, FL) as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her 4 sisters (Nellie Gelnett, Shirley Rafferty, Lorena Smith, and Loretta Connor).   8. Marcie D. Brubaker, Age 38 of DuBois, PA died Friday, April 29, 2022 at her home. Born on March 5, 1984 in DuBois, PA she was the daughter of Randy E. Schmidt & his wife Donna and Anita L. (Wruble) Heffner & her husband Mike. Her parent and step parents survive. On September 20, 2014, she married Barry W. Brubaker. He survives. Marcie was a graduate of the DuBois Area High School and held a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development from Clarion University where she was also a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She was employed by the Pennsylvania State University DuBois Campus as the Assistant Student Engagement Coordinator. Marcie was always active in her community, she was the President of the Wasson Avenue Elementary PTA, was a girl scout and brownie leader, served as a team mom for the DuBois Little League, and volunteered at Marcy’s School of Dance. Above all, she loved her entire family and was a great mom to her two beautiful daughters Brianna & Hailee. In addition to her parents, husband, and daughters, she is survived by her brother (Eric Schmidt & his wife Aly of Jacksonville Beach, FL), her maternal grandfather (Joseph “Bud” Wruble of DuBois, PA), her Godparents (Cathy Zimmerman and Brian Wruble, both of DuBois, PA), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother (Janet Wruble) and her paternal grandparents (Dallas “Pat” & Ruth Schmidt). Visitation will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022 from 1 -4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 10 a.m. from St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer officiating.   10. Richard M.” Dick” Hockman, age 89 of DuBois, PA died Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. Born on June 16, 1932 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Elmer K. and Jean (Moore) Hockman. On August 22, 1953 he married his wife of 68 years, Carole (Loughman) Hockman. She survives. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. Dick retired as the President of Brockway Pressed Metals after 40 years of service with the company. He was a member of APMI International, a Global Professional Society for Powder Metallurgy, and was an amateur radio operator, call sign K3LIX. Dick also enjoyed golfing and hunting. He is survived by one son (Richard “Blaine” Hockman and his wife Vickie of DuBois, PA), one grandson (Keif Richard Hockman), three step grandchildren (Douglas, Ben & Zachary Means), one step great grandson (Benjamin Means, Jr.) and one sister (Susan Robb & her husband Bill of Raleigh, NC). He was preceded in death by one brother (John Hockman). There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 11 AM from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Pastor Terry Felt officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the funeral home. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.   11. Donna L. Paolinellie, age 77 of DuBois, PA died Monday, April 25, 2022 at McKinley Health Center in Brookville, PA. Born on April 23, 1945 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Marino J. and Kathleen (Hackett) Paolinellie. Donna had worked as a waitress in various restaurants in the area over the years. She was Roman Catholic by faith and was very spiritual, praying the rosary daily. Donna was extremely generous and always had a kind heart. Donna is survived by one son (David Paolinellie of Austintown, OH), one sister (Kathy Paolinellie of Hermitage, PA), one brother-in-law (Al “Sonny” Horn of Rockton, PA), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters (Mary Lou Horn and Eileen Craggs), and two brothers-in-law (Rick Kronenwetter and Michael Walusis) and one nephew (Todd Horn). Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 4pm – 7pm at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.   13. Sarah Ellen Jones, Age 88 of Falls Creek, PA died Friday, April 22, 2022 at Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital. Born on May 14, 1933 in Sherbrooke, Quebec Canada, she was the daughter of the late James & Mary Ann Davidson Jones. Ellen retired from Glick’s Shoes in Downtown DuBois as the store manager after many years of service. Previous to Glick’s, she had worked at Con Allen’s Shoes. She was a charter member of the former Falls Creek Women’s Club, and was a member of St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church where she was previously very active in church affairs. Ellen was an avid reader, enjoyed bowling, and in her later years, word search puzzles. Ellen is survived by 2 sisters (Jeanne Britton of Falls Creek, PA and Margaret Kengersky of DuBois, PA), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother (Arthur Jones & his wife Barbara), 2 brothers in law (Edward “Whitey” Kengersky and John Britton), and a niece (Brenda Cessna). There will be no public visitation and all service will be private. Memorials may be placed with the charity of the donor’s choice.   14. Ronald R.”Barney” Fike, age 79 of Punxsutawney, PA died Sunday, April 17, 2022. Born on September 20, 1942 in Sykesville, PA, he was the son of the late Russell R. and Mae (Heberling) Fike. On October 26, 1963 he married Marlene J. (Henry) Fike. She survives. Ron had worked in the Flagg Warehouse of Triangle Auto Springs and retired after 37 years of service. He was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing and volunteered in several different organizations. He is survived by his son (Calvin W. Fike of Punxsutawney, PA), and sisters-in-law (Shirley Turner and Pat Turner and Hazel Fike and Florence Fike) and several nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by 1 daughter (Michele Ronnie “Sissy” Fike), step mother (Annabelle (Turner) Fike), 2 brothers (James and William Fike) and 2 step brothers (Paul and James Turner). He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. There will be no public visitation. All services will be private. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.   15. Sharon P. Gunderman, age 78 of DuBois, PA died Saturday, April 16, 2022 at her home. Born on April 14, 1944 in Morristown, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Roland Potts and Alice C. Fisher Potts. On September 25, 1965 she married Charles F. Gunderman. He survives. Sharon had worked as an aerobic instructor at the DuBois Area YMCA and served on the Board of Directors for many years. She was a Sunday School instructor at Brookside Community Church of Christ in New Jersey. Sharon was Head Coach of the United States Association of Blind Athletes Goalball Team winning gold and silver medals in 5 different Olympic games starting with Korea in 1988. Her greatest achievement was defeating the Chinese in the Beijing Para Olympics in 2008. She also coached the men’s and women’s goalball teams in the state of New Jersey and ran many sports camps for visually impaired children to get them involved in sports. She was the current President of the New Jersey Association of Blind Athletes. Sharon was an avid gardener of flowers and was one of the founders of Paint & Play Pre-School in DuBois, PA. She was also a Girl Scout Leader and a PIAA Gymnastics official. Sharon is survived by her children (Heidi Daschko and her husband Greg of Andover, NJ, Erich Gunderman and his wife Michelle of Lorton, VA and Gretchen Hamm and her husband Deyman of Souderton, PA), 6 grandchildren (Christopher & Nicholas Daschko, Joshua Hamm and Grant, Mackenzie & Riley Gunderman) and 1 sister (Carol Durna and her husband Joseph of Hackettstown, NJ). Visitation will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 6 – 8 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. A private service will be held.   16. James B. Swauger, Sr. age 77 of DuBois, PA died Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. Born on October 6, 1944 in Coalport, PA, he was the son of the late Bruce and Ruth (Bloom) Swauger. James married Carol (Duttry) Swauger. She preceded him in death on April 6, 1996. He was the owner/operator of Swauger Lumber Company for many years. He had also worked at Highway Equipment. James is survived by his children (Wanda Reasinger and her husband Don and James B. Swauger, Jr. both of DuBois, PA), 1 grandson (Shane J. Grdal), 2 brothers (Thomas Swauger and his wife Nancy and Robert Swauger) and 3 sisters (Dorothy Hendricks, Carol Cloak and Nancy Murray).   17. Patty Ann Bailey, age 72 of DuBois, PA died Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the DuBois Nursing Home. Born on August 10, 1949 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Bailey and Dorothy (Brown) Bailey Goodman. Patty had worked as a receptionist most recently at the DuBois Nursing Home and previously, at the DuBois Regional Medical Center Business Office. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Patty enjoyed baking, especially sugar cookies, reading cookbooks, crafts, coloring and playing games on the computer. She is survived by 1 brother (Ken Bailey and his wife Mary of DuBois, PA) and 1 sister (Dottie Walker and her husband Barry of Hermitage, PA), 2 nieces (Melanie Kiehlmeier and her husband Eric and Carrie Bailey both of DuBois, PA) and close friends (Darlene Brown and Mike Selker). Visitation will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022 from 10 am – 12 pm at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 12 pm from the funeral home with Pastor David Coul officiating. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery.   18. Alice M. Munn, age 94 of DuBois, PA went into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 with her family by her side. Born on September 15, 1927 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Estella (Shaffer) Shaffer. On November 26, 1965, she married Albert E. Munn. He preceded her in death in 2001. Alice retired from Brockway Glass Company in September of 1989 after many years of service. Alice was a hard worker and giver. Her family was her world and she was with them every chance she had.   19. Robert E. Dunlap, Jr., age 68 of DuBois, PA died Sunday, April 10, 2022 at his home. Born on June 5, 1953 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Betty (Platt) Dunlap, Sr. On May 5, 1973 he married his wife of 48 years, Carol A. (Bruzga) Dunlap. She survives. Bob retired after over 30 years as a truck driver. He worked the majority of his career at Robert Cole Trucking and had also driven for Kennedy Transfer. In his earlier years, he was a mechanic at Hughes Starr and Johnson Motors and was a night watchman at Rockwell Plant # 2. He is a life member of the Adrian Sandy Hose Company #3 where he served as past Assistant Fire Chief and held many other offices over the years. He was also a life member of the Olympic Athletic Club, the Sandy Hose Company #1 Fireman’s Club, the James J. Patterson Post 813 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the George G. Montgomery Legion Post 17 and was a 30-year member of the Falls Creek Eagles. He also loved to go camping and hunting.   20. Dr. Manjula Shah, Age 84 of DuBois, PA passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 8, 2022 with family at her side. She was born to Chaganlal P. And Shanta C. Shah in Baroda, India. Manjula first met her beloved husband of 54 years, Dr. Shirish N. Shah, during their high school years. They studied medicine together at the Baroda Medical College. Manjula and Shirish later married in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and ultimately settled in DuBois, Pennsylvania where she practiced medicine for over 30 years. Manjula distinguished herself as the first female gynecological surgeon to ever graduate from Baroda Medical College. She touched the lives of so many over her 3 decades of medical practice. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community where she donated so much of her time. She volunteered regularly for over 10 years at the DuBois Public Library’s Adult Literacy Program, Meals on Wheels, and local elementary schools. Her family was truly her pride and joy. She was a wonderful, caring, and generous mother and grandmother who was always there when her children and grandchildren needed her. In her spirituality, she found meaning, purpose, and peace. She is now reunited with her beloved Shirish who passed away in January of 2019. She is survived by her three loving children Susie (Jay) Shah, Shirley (Michael) Laribee, Sushrut (Purvi) Shah, nephew Samir (Neha) Shah and seven beautiful grandchildren, Shilpi, Aryana, Avikar, Anya, Kirin, Sommara and Simonne.   21. Bradley B. McGinnis, age 70, of DuBois, PA, died Friday April 8, 2022 at Penn Highland DuBois Hospital, after a year’s long battle with cancer. Brad was born on July 31, 1951 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Jack and Betty (Walls) McGinnis. He was a graduate of the DuBois Area High School Class of 1969 and attended Penn State University. After college Brad lived briefly in Florida and was an avid shark fisherman. Brad worked in the landscaping field with his parents’ business Town ‘n Country Garden Center. He is survived by his twin sons, Bram McGinnis, of New York City, and Brett McGinnis of New York City, his beloved partner Kathleen Byrd, of DuBois and her children, Jess Nelen, Melissa Shick, and Kim Shick. A sister, Melanie McGinnis, of Treasure Lake, and a nephew, Tyler Fritz, of Treasure Lake. He was preceded in death by his aunt, Bess McGinnis, as well as other aunts and uncles. Brad was a lover of animals and being outdoors. While his sons were younger, he was a dedicated coach for the Treasure Lake Raiders and was a Scout Leader with the Boy Scouts Troop 26. He was a fan of Penn State Football, as well as all of the Pittsburgh teams. Brad loved to golf with his sons. His proudest accomplishment was being a father.   22. Richard “Dick” Kuntz, age 77 of DuBois, PA, died Thursday, April 7, 2022 at his residence. Born on July 7, 1944 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late John and Fayette (Shaffer) Kuntz. He was a graduate of the DuBois Area High School Class of 1962. On July 10, 1965 he married Nancy L. (Hand) Kuntz. She preceded him in death on September 25, 2019. Dick retired from Sensus Metering as a tool and die maker after over 40 years of service. He was a member of the Sabula United Methodist Church where he was active in church affairs. He enjoyed gardening and above all, he loved his time with his family.   23. Phylis M. Klar, age 99 of Falls Creek, PA went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Christ the King Manor. Born on October 25, 1922 in Falls Creek, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Lotus A. (Bullers) Yount. On December 28, 1943, she married Paul G. Klar. She was predeceased by him on May 2, 1982. Phylis was a 1940 graduate of the Falls Creek High School and resided most of her life in Falls Creek. She retired from Brockway Glass in 1986 where she had worked as a supervisor for over 37 years. At the time, Phylis was the first female supervisor in the company. Phylis was a member of DuBois Area Historical Society, Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary in Falls Creek and Christ the King Auxillary. She loved music and played her piano every day while singing hymns. She sang and served as Vice President with the Community Christian Choir for many years, and she also shared her vocal talent with the Sweet Adelines, The Crystalaires Quartet, and church choirs. She enjoyed reading and knitting and was a skilled seamstress. Through the years, she knitted and donated a large number of sweaters to the Guidepost Missions for children and prayer shawls for those in nursing care. Phylis also served on and helped organize the Falls Creek School Reunions for many years. Phylis battled polio in her childhood and persevered through many struggles. This however did not stop her from pushing through life and enjoying years of family time, hard work, church, and social activities as well as travels. She was a wealth of information and details and had connections with people everywhere she went, always talking and making conversation. She was the last surviving member of her immediate Yount family. Phylis lived a long life and with God's strength and her willpower, she almost made it to 100. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Phylis is survived by a son (Robert “Robin” Klar and his wife Carol of Walkertown, NC), a daughter (Rebecca “Beccie” Lusk & her husband Louis “Bink” of Mount Juliet, TN), 4 grandchildren (Ryan (Shannon) & Kristen Klar, and Andrew (Caroline) & Diana Lusk), and 3 great grandchildren (Ciara Klar and Eli & Everly Lusk).   24. Terry Reed Swope, age 72, of DuBois, PA, released the hands of his mother and daughter to take the hand of Jesus on April 2, 2022, following a short struggle with metastatic lung cancer. Terry was born November 19, 1949, the son of Reed Kermit Swope, who preceded him in death, and Betty Lee Swope, who survives. Terry is also survived by his daughter, Meghan Swope, brother Tim Swope, sister-in-law Marie Swope, and beloved nieces and nephews Erica (Swope) Manthey, Sonia Swope, Basil “Skip” Beighey, Susie Morrell, Thomas Beighey, Timothy Beighey, Elizabeth Miller, Anne Woodbury, and many grand nephews and nieces. His beloved wife, Kristin (Kris) Swope, brother David Swope, brother-and-sister-in-law Larry and Carole Beighey awaited his heavenly arrival, having preceded him in death. Terry grew up in DuBois and received a degree in Music Education from Susquehanna University in 1971. Kris and Terry reconnected as majorette instructor and band director, respectively, at DuBois Area High School and were married November 26, 1986. Terry taught elementary music and directed the DAHS Marching Band, Chorus and Dynamics for more than 40 years and served in leadership roles in the DuBois Area Pennsylvania State Education Association. He was a fierce advocate for his students and fellow teachers. Many former students have said they would not have survived tumultuous teenage years without his kindness, guidance, and support. His music room, and his home, were safe havens. Friends and family will be received Friday, April 8, 2022, from 4-7 pm at the Baronick Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc.
